Sign A.Samuel from the Patriots...The Jets will need to spend the $$$ for once, but thats what winning teams do, they go out and get "Thier guy" I remember when we went and got T.Law... I was happy... FOR 1 YEAR... Lets get this guy to play in this secondary for years to come. P.S, A.Samuel is very high on Mangini... And we all know Mangin is high on A.Samuel. A.Samuel and D.Revis as a 1-2 punch locking down WR's, with K.Rhodes flying around the seconday for the next 5+ Seasons? Wow. We all seen what the Giants D did to Brady and the Patriots O-Line today.... They put pressure on the QB. Draft Gholston at #6 to make plays for this Defense for years to come with players such as D.Revis, A.Samuel, K.Rhodes, D.Harris and J.Vilma...With those 6 players on Defense, D.Robertson will benefit so much, it's not even funny as our NT. Thats 7 impact starters on this Defense out of 11 players... Not bad.... Not bad at all. Add the fact that we have role players such as E.Barton, Hobson and B.Thomas for deph... You can never have enough LB's in the 3-4. Defense wins championships and this Defense can be an IMPACT Defense with A.Samuel and V.Gholston in the offseason. Rounds 2-3- Focus on the O-Line if not in FA... 3-4 go D-Line... 5-6-7 Go BPA
A perfect off-season would simply consist of Addressing the Offensive line (Seriously addressing) and Defensive line (draft, free agency or other) Picking up a tall wide receiver ( prepare for the future) and finding out who's going to be the Quarter back . Yes I know they said Kellen would be the starter but do you believe anything Mangini says!
To be honest well sign maybe one Tier three free agent to be on special teams the jets are by far the worst in football at signing players plus who wants to come play for the Jets they'll be alottttttt of guys signing up to play in New York next season and it aint gonna be for the Green and White.
Crappy teams go out and get "their guy." Give me an example of a Super Bowl winning team making a huge run at a FA. When I think of teams going out and getting "their guy" I think of Nate Clements in SF, Antoine Winfield in MIN, Edgerrin James in ARI, etc.
:rofl2::rofl: Good one! BTW, the very first thing on the OP's list makes this NOT a perfect offseason. Any kind of Asante Samuel signing is a wasted signing, because there is absolutely no chance in hell we get him cheap.
Moss was a trade and a fleecing at that. If we go out and trade a 4th rounder and for a A. Samuel like player that would be one thing, but to commit $80 million + over 10 years is a bit extreme. Plax is someone I forgot about. Clearly a good example. I feel like he has a very reasonable contract and was a player who wasn't in "hot" demand as a FA like A. Samuel would be. I'm not against signing Samuel, but that contract would be a tough pill to swallow.
I'd love to have a Nate Clements...I'd rather sign him than Samuels...much tough, more physical, better in man to man coverage....
I would love the flashy corner but the reality is we need so much help spending that much on one player is crazy. When you look at the jets cap money you also have to thin about next year when we can seriously make a playoff run .
i know i'll probably get killed for this, but i say let's go after chad johnson in a trade. this does a couple of things for us i think we definatly need: 1.put us on the back page of the paper 2.injects some excitment in a team that desperatly needs it 3.upgrades our offense, and improves our running game you know johnson would love to play in the biggest media market in the world. i know he's an ass, but he's an ass with talent, and let's face it, we need help on offense. it immediatly would improve our running and passing game. johnson, coles and cotchery, with baker at te, and joens in the backfield!! come on, thats a killer offense!! add a fa signing like faneca, and draft gholston, and we are on cloud nine, in jet land!! i think we can really benifit from this. let me know what you guys think.
So you're interested in a perfect off season, eh... Well, how about having some 'meanness classes' for the OL and DL. Starting perhaps about 1 March. Instill some legal killing instincts in the big guys. Overcome the passivity inspired by the vaunted cerebral approach of our coach, and incite a thirst for the opponent's blood for a change. The real objective of this off season, as far as I am concerned, is to come up with a couple of dozen equally valid answers to the burning question: "How do we utterly discourage and demoralize the other guy?" There was a story that Coach Mangini actually threw over a table a day before a game toward the end of the season in a team meeting. But then it was quickly squelched for some reason. Was it a lie? Or was it too emotional a story? Too bad it disappeared so fast before we could enjoy it. I was very impressed with the Patriots' disappointment with the Super Bowl this weekend.
Are you related to Rudy Giuliani? That is a good point about not capping out. How many teams do you see load up beyond the point only to purge two to three years later for lack of success and room to sign o new players or keep the good ones they have!
