To me, saying there's no plan and that you don't like the outcome of a plan are two different things. Woody has a plan, you just don't like the results this year. And neither do I.

All these questions about a plan were nowhere to be found last year, but now they're rampant. This administration is 1-1 in mind. Which is what Belichick and the Pats were after two years (Yes, the Pats' 2001 season was far more successful than the Jets' 2006 season). If you want to make the argument that Mangini & Co. are too beholden to their plan, I think it's a safer argument than there's no plan in place.

And let's not make Steinbrenner out to be Bill Gates here: what was his plan after the initial strategy to outbid the market after free agency was initiated? Sure it worked in the late 1970s, but it didn't work in the 1980s and 1990s (Henderson, Winfield, D. Collins, K. Griffey, Buhner for K. Phelps, etc.) Only when he was suspended from MLB did the ship get righted. Yes, the Yankees still have the highest payroll which makes them look smarter, but their success is in large part attributable to the decisions made to construct their cornerstones around home-grown talent.

He took a team that he and his partners bought for under 10 Million, renovated the stadium, brought in Marquee players and built fan interest in the club, built the farm system up, competed for and won several WS over several decades, developed a private cable network that guarantees them a huge revenue stream, which will allow them to compete for years, and is now having a new ballpark open with direct Metro North service to the ball park which will ensure the health of the ball club for decades while the team is handed off to his son.

He always interfered with the club but he always over paid top notch baseball people to either make key baseball decissions or advice him. This is in stark contrast to Woody who has had two neophyte regimes of low paid football people to make decissions. I happen to like Mangini but this isn't his first hire he has owned the team since 2000 and I have never been a fan of Bradway or Herm. Tanny I have no clue if he is any good as a GM or not and Mangini seems like a good young coach but he certainly comes with a very thin resume and is being paid like it.

When people ask me who I'm rooting for, I tell them I'm rooting for bears to maul everyone on the field.

I'm starting to wonder who I'd rather have. Pats have been to 5 bowls under Kraft to zero for Woody. But Krafty is now 3-2, not dynasty material in my opinion. The org is now 3-3 overall. Champ, that's .500 by my math.

Forgetting about the SB matchup for a minute, the worst Jets season for me was 1999. Vinny getting hurt in the first game of the year that we were legit SB contenders is as bad as it gets. That season pretty much sums up our lives as Jets fans.[/QUOTE]

I'LL never forget that game. You nailed it, man. I still think back to that day and wondered what could have been.

Heaven help me, but seeing Belichimp lose this game is almost as good as seeing the Jets win a Super Bowl.

Exaggeration and false praise at its finest.

Steinbrenner built up the farm system? The only times the Yankees farm system has thrived under Steinbrenner was the late 80's/early 90's when he was suspended and...the past 2-3 years when he suddenly realized he'll die one day.

Steinbrenner has done *great* things for his franchise, but he couldn't pull half the shit he did if he owned the Jets. It's funny how his franchise has thrived and been at its most innovative when he couldn't touch it though...

So I'm gonna agree with Mickey on what he said:

The whole sky is falling act is just a nuisance. It's obvious that Woody is committed to building this franchise in the way of the Patriots, Colts, and other innovative franchises out there just by the hires and choices he's made. Tanny is not your traditional NFL GM, but I like that alot. He's knowledgeable in contract negotiation and has shown no ego as far as decisions (esp. the draft). I see "Tangini" taking us to places this franchise has never been if we just stick with them, but it's not going to be easy to convince this fan base otherwise. The only way they're going to get patience from this fan base is by completely ignoring them for the time being. They may lose a couple fans, but 99% will come back the second this team starts winning again.

In case you missed it the sky isn't falling it fell when Parcells quit and BB followed him. In the same period we squandered a solid base of players and turned it into 4 & 12, the team across town built a SB champ and the team to our north has 3 of them. We are behind the Bills in our rebuild and the Dolphins hit rock bottom years ago and have a much better football man running their operations today than we do. Mangini may develop into a great HC, I like him but we have a week staff and Tannenbaum isn't a football guy he is a cap and contracts bottom line guy. It could work out but when that new stadium opens and if we are in a recession and the Giants are getting PSL money and we aren't don't be shocked when we fire both Mangini and Tannenbaum. They have a very short window which is on the way down.

Fans aren't patient and we can't depend on overflow from Giants fans who can't get seats paying the tab for a crappy team forever.

I don't know what game you were watching, this was a great SB. Big deal, we root for the shittiest franchise in pro sports. I don't care that much. It's not our fault. We never blew a draft or made a shitty personnel decision. It's a game guys don't take it so personally. Look on the bright side, you're among the most loyal fans on the planet.

Props to Giant fans and congrats. It was a fun game to watch. And good call on the Wild Turkey:)

    I smell sitcom.

What you're saying can simply be solved by the owner having some balls. Woody needs to stick to the plan and yes...live with a decline...any smart owner with an eye to the future would have to...especially considering the state of his product. The stadium opens in '10, which gives Mangini 3 offseasons to work with until we play our first game there. I hope by then this team looks like what I think he hopes it will look like one day....or at least be significantly closer and better than todays.

It's not just balls it's smarts and the ability to live with great football people you might not get along with and pay them top dollar. Woody has gone the route of lest resistance twice now.

Thats not true at all. Like with great franchises, great football minds don't just appear. I see no reason why Woody has to throw out top shelf money just to get names that appease you and others.

And Mangini has a huge coaching staff...we have like a billion coaches on this team...so yea...I'd say he's doing fine with surrounding himself with good football people.

Agreed. Did it suck that the Giants and Pats were in the Super Bowl? Of course it did. That said, I'd be just as miserable if it was Chargers/Packers today.

When you go 4-12 it's clear that some pretty significant changes need to be made on the field. That is the case regardless of the success/failures of the Giants, Pats, Dolphins, etc. If this organization needs the Giants to win a super bowl for them to make changes, than there are MUCH bigger issues with this organization.

Please tell me this doesn't happen. I have a 3 month old and he was great today in his Jet sweatshirt and hat. It would be a dagger in my heart if he ever rooted for the Pats, Dolphins or Giants. My best friend already promised me a Giant SB shirt and I almost threw up.

Fortunately it looks like the Mets will be competitive for years so I think he'll grow up loving guys like Wright, Reyes, Beltran and JOHAN!!!
