Draft Daddy post Senior Bowl notes: Ohio State?s Vernon Gholston has looked stiff and marginally athletic in recent weeks during training. Questions are already being asked about Gholston and the possible used of steroids. We categorically state we have heard nothing definitive except a source from the Bengals organization did tell us ?the Buckeyes hired a strength and conditioning coach with a shady background.?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Yot9ClPvZDg Nuff said...He made Jake Long (a top 5 pick), Chad Henne and Mike Hart his bithces on one play. He isn't known for his superior coverage...the guy is a pass rusher.
i believe every NFL player takes that stuff. And the League doesn?t care. Every year, they get some scapegoats, that they can say, we do test, and that?s it. Wasn?t the Steelers teamdoctor released last year for buying steroids with his own creditcard?
I heard this year that Seymour or one of those fags got suspended for three games because he was taking some juice. I can't believe I didn't really hear about it anywhere else.
Luis Costillo of SD took steroids in order to heal himself for the combine and he was taken in round 1. Hes been stellar at DT for SD and is a big part of that defense and has been off it since needing it to heal faster. Besides, its all speculation on Gholston being on the roids.
The roid question is obvious - just look at the guy, but more troubling to me is the stiffness. I noticed it myself as a lack of lateral agility and it is HUGE for a pass rusher. I am not a fan of Gholston.
I don't believe that for a second... Football is about having a good balance of skill and durability first and foremost. Steroids are known to make players more susceptible to injuries. In a game where injuries are so common, and kill your career before it even gets started, it seems that only the most dense, or desperate, of players will resort to juicing, further raising the possibility that they will ruin their careers...
Just remember that scouts/experts thought Dwight Freeney was too short and that Terell Suggs would never excell after his 40 time(4.8). I will admit that for every Freeney ther is a Mamula. But more often that not, when it comes to pass rushers...if impressive athletic ability is appearing during games, odds are theyll have success on the next level.
Also I didnt watch the Senior Bowl but i'd imagine he was playing a down lineman position rather than the standing 3-4 OLB he'd be playing with us so you have to factor that in.
TIME OUT!!!!!!! Gholston is a JUNIOR.. He declared early.....How could he be at the SENIOR BOWL?????????? Bogus Reporting...........
I'll have you know, I do like Gholston as a football player and at this point I do hope he becomes a NY Jet. BUT, I am by no means in love with him.(not that there is anything wrong with that)
So....the other benefits...the ones athletes would take steroids for...wouldn't play a part in todays NFL players choices? I have no idea why the NFL and steroids aren't talked about more while baseball got unbelievably fucked. Anyway...I'm pretty sure Draft Daddy is run by someone on JI whose opinion I have no belief in at all....BS reporting at it's finest. If its who I think it is, he's been 100% against Gholston from day 1...but he'd want us to draft Dan Connor...
Like I said, the benefits aren't worth it.... I can see players using to recover from injuries, and then getting off the stuff, but consistent use just to gain an 'edge' seems like it would be a strategy only used by the most dense or desperate of players. If you make it to the NFL, you're already an extraordinary athlete, who will now be working with some of the best trainers and nutrition experts in the business. Your number one goal when you get there is to stay healthy while playing at as high a level as possible for as many years as possible. This isn't baseball, where one could juice up, increase his power, suffer an injury, and then sign on with any one of the AL ball clubs as a DH and make millions. You suffer a big injury in the NFL, and you're done 90% of the time. I'm not saying there aren't guys who use, but I'm saying from all my experience playing and training for football and talking with extraordinary football players along the way, I think there is a reason why steroids aren't as big a deal in football as they are elsewhere in baseball.... The way I see it with football, the higher the level of competition, the higher the salary, the more stupid one would have to be to go on the juice.
