Long-term contract talks between the Ravens and prospective free agent Terrell Suggs are expected to intensify soon.
Defensive coordinator Rex Ryan has made it a point to say he wants Suggs back in 2008. The Ravens will probably franchise tag Suggs in late February, then begin a concerted push to lock him up well into the next decade.
    Source: Baltimore Sun.

First K. Dansby being franchised,........now T. Suggs. At least we know its got to be a pass-rushing OLB w/either our 1st (Gholston) or 2nd pick (Groves). I had my hopes on Suggs ---- 25yrs old & just great great size at 6-3 260. He would have broken the bank but I felt like he was the one big $$ free agent that was worth it.

Well no one really believed that Baltimore was stupid enough to just let Suggs walk. If they were, everyone on this board should have all gotten out their prayer beads and tried to will the Jets into signing him. However it never really had a chance of happening.

It's not a big deal, Gholston might be the next Suggs. I think our priorities should be O-line, NT, CB, WR, S in that order. I think the first two are an absolute must (this assumes Sopoaga doesn't get a long term deal from the 49ers). CB is something we should definitely be on the look out for, but I don't know if we should break the bank for Samuel. If we got Trufant I would be ecstatic.

The priorty is to get good players. There will be a very limited amount of good players available. Suggs won't be available, Haynesworth won't be available. It isvery important to choose wisely. I don't want a free agent just to sign somebody. Asante Samuel makes sense. He will cost a ton of money but it makes sense to spend alot of money on a really good player.

Why go after a big name lineman when there are so many misfits from the CFL, XFL and undrafted wash ups from college that never fit into any system who would be more than willing to work hard if given the chance to make the team?

With the money we would have spent on Suggs – we could probably bring in 15 or 16 of these guys.

Damnit Vick I'm tired of this pessimistic attitude from you.

You and I both know that we could bring in twice that many former XFL, CFL and failed college players for the money Suggs would want.

If the Jets were even smarter than they think they are they'd realize that they could get 15-20 school buses and pull all the construction workers off of every midtown job site for that kind of money.

That'd be a great move because then they'd have enough big bodies in camp to make Adrien Clarke and Jacob Bender look good for a change!

As if Suggs staying in Baltimore wasn't already a foregone conclusion...

We could always offer the #6 for him and see what happens. I'd rather have him than Gholston.
