That didn't take long. He's no longer LA's hitting coach "for family reasons." He'll remain a part of the organizations and do occasional special assignments.

As a hitting coach, I'd welcome him back with open arms. I'm also still not unconvinced he could make a good manager, but I am happier with Girardi right now.

Boston already has already proven that there is no such thing as a jinx.

I just don't think Donnie Baseball's heart is in it, especially since he's now in LA. It's a shame, really.. the way he left. But as a die hard Yankees fan, I'd much rather have Girardi managing.

    Don Mattingly's wife jailed
    BY JOHN HARPER
    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

    Tuesday, February 5th 2008, 4:00 AM

Don Mattingly's marriage problems, which forced him to walk away from his job as Joe Torre's hitting coach with the Dodgers a few weeks ago, surfaced in an ugly manner on Saturday night.

Mattingly's estranged wife, Kim, was arrested and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct after she allegedly refused to leave her husband's property in Evansville, Ind.

The Mattinglys filed for divorce in November and, according to one person close to the situation, had been living separately.

According to a Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Department probable cause affidavit, Kim Mattingly was arrested after local deputies were called to the Mattingly home Saturday night because of a family dispute "involving a person who refused to leave."

Kim Mattingly told deputies that Don had taken her phone, which she wanted back. Don told them he didn't have the phone, and the deputies, in turn, told Kim she needed to go through her lawyer for future dealings with Don. She also was told to stay away from the property.

Later that night, deputies were called back to the home and found Kim Mattingly trying to leave as a passenger in a car. An officer ordered her out of the car, and, according to the report, found her unsteady on her feet, smelling of alcohol, and acting with "an abusive attitude."

At that point she was arrested for public intoxication. She reportedly resisted arrest, screaming and attempting to pull away while being handcuffed. She was later released from the Vanderburgh County Jail after posting a $50 bond.

Mattingly, who lost out to Joe Girardi for the job of replacing Torre as Yankees manager, accepted a part-time job with the Dodgers as special assignment coach after stepping down as hitting coach. People who knew him said he felt he needed to be home, as the youngest of his three sons is still in high school.

Women just have to f up everything.

I don't need that jinx around my team. It's bad enough we're going to have that bump on a log Torre managing the team. Wait until he realizes he can't roll a $200 million all-star team with a DH out there and wait for someone to hit a 3-run home run. And we're not going to go out and buy him a new HR hitter the minute someone goes cold. There's a reason he's about 800 games under .500 as a NL manager.

typical Yankee player stuff....Ruth and Mantle were drunkards, Kekich and Peterson swap wives, Joe Pepitone is a druggie, Billy Martin kills himself driving drunk, Rodriquez cheats on his wife, Leyritz kills a woman while driving drunk, Mattingly's wife is drunk, Jeter cheats on his taxes, Clemens does steroids, Petite does human growth hormones, Knoblaugh does steroids, Randy Johnson is a jerk. David Justice does steroids. Steinbrenner's son-in-law gets a DWI and gets fired as Yankee president. Steinbrenner's daughter leaves her husband for the landscaper. Did I forget anybody? Go YANKEES and continue to root for a great organization!!!
