I see a few people looking for signs that we'll be better next year. I too, am a believer in the occult, especially when it comes to these witchdoctkaz. Without question, the Jets best years end in an 8, a 1 and a 2. 1968--SB Champs 1978--5 game improvement to 8-8; start of the 2nd best Jet era 1988--The weak link, but still we rise to .500 from a 6-win strike year, and knock NYG out of the playoffs. 1998--12-4, First AFC East title, 3rd conference championship game appearance, our alltime 2nd best season 1961--Respectable 7-7 in our inaugural year as Titans 1971--OK, only 6-8 1981--The return to the playoffs after a decade of pestilence 1991--A return to the playoffs a half decade of pestilence 2001--The Herm Turns, great regular season finale at Oakland puts in playoffs 1962--Respectable .500 again 1972--The 70's were horrible, but this was one of the better seasons with a strong start, the classic Namath/Unitas duel and a .500 finish 1982--Deepest penetration in the post-season, two road wins, before the agony of Miami 2002--Jets grab 3rd division title, annhilate Colts 41-0 in playoffs, a turnaround for the ages The worst numbers for the Jets? Year ending in 3 or 0. 1963--New "Jets" slip under .500 for first time, 5-8-1 1973--Namath hurt again, Jets go 4-10, let murderer achieve 2000 yards in Weeb's finale 1983--Jets hire Walton, miss playoffs, miss on Marino, move out of Queens 1993--Jets need to win one of last 3 games to make the playoffs, they don't 2003--Pennington gets hurt in preseason, Jets win 6 games 1970--The sixties are over, the Jets are old, Namath misses first significant time, 4-10 1980--Jets fall off the table after posting consecutive .500 seasons 1990--Coslet named coach, Jets go 6-9 2000--Belichick quits Jets, goes to NE, takes our dynasty with him; oh year, Jets blow another playoff bid in another season finale Bottom line: Expect something very good for the Jets in 2008, maybe even spectacular. 2009? Eh.
1968 season is still the year that lead up to the "1969" Super bowl title. You are the most negative person I've ever seen.
See he said 68 SB champs which is totally incorrect. He would be correct however if he posted that we were AFL champs in 68
Champ... I hear your rock calling. It misses you. Maybe you could do the forum a favor and go crawl back under it.
To call the team the '68 Champs is correct... because they are the championships of the 1968 season. Hockey and Basketball carries over, but they go out of their way to call their seasons 06-07 and 07-08. Look up football stats and it's just one year. That's the one that counts.
"But I'm calling you using my new Comcast Digital Voice Service now..... FELLAS.......!!!!..... I HAVE COMCAST DIGITAL VOICE...........!!!!!........"
Excellent post.....one more note, the Jets have never lost to the Dolphins in a year ending in '8' either. Expect that trend to continue as well.....
While the Jets won the SB in 1969, it is the 1968 team. NFL.com, Sportsline.com, Foxsports .com, and ESPN.com all list the 1968 team as League Champions.
Since you asked, it's not great. 4 winning seasons, 6 losing seasons, 2 break-even seasons and 1 world's championship. I'm going to stay positive however, and make the "leap" of faith and say we're due for another trophy in 2008. 1960: 7-7 1964: 5-8-1 1968: 11-3 1972: 7-7 1976: 3-11 1980: 4-12 1984: 7-9 1988: 8-7-1 1992: 4-12 1996: 1-15 2000: 9-7 2004: 10-6
