Offensive line coach Wise close to leaving
by Dave Hutchinson Friday January 18, 2008, 6:00 AM
Offensive line coach Tony Wise is close to taking the same position at the University of Pittsburgh, according to someone with knowledge of the discussions.

That person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he's not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

In recent weeks, the Jets have interviewed former Chiefs offensive coordinator Mike Solari and ex-Raiders coach Bill Callahan for the position. Both are former offensive line coaches.

    A good thing..

A good thing indeed. Any coach who can't make an offensive lineman fat is not qualified for the job.

Mangini was forced to hire a pretty inexperienced/ineffective coaching staff. Going from Tony Wise to Bill Callahan is certainly a big step in the right direction with this staff.

The most amazing part about this? The fact that we actually had an offensive line coach on the payroll.

Or that we hired this douche from the Dolphins after they consistently had some of the most pathetic OLs ever under him.

I love how everyone just blames the coach as if it was his fault he had the talent he had to work w/. The 2 high picks have been realluy good(Mangold) and decent(Brick) but we have 2/5 of the OL that is horrible and that's not the OL Coaches fault. This guy gets so much blame now as he did in Miami yet in Miami he had the #1 rushing O in 2002 and for the ONLY time in his career Ricky Williams had a big time season. Wise has to get some credit for that.

His leaving is like Rosie O'Donnell getting the Republican of the year award. Good riddance. Mangini better draft some offensive linemen because that was one of their glaring weak spots. No quarterback can throw when he's flat on his back.
