Why would we want Vince Young even if he was available?

This guy has athletic talent but I would be really scared to take him with the fourth pick. Young is a much bigger project than we have time for.

I would rather take uncle Rico from Napolean Dynamite than Vince Young!

He isn't THAT big of a project...everyone keeps saying that like it will take him 5 years to develop...

I like Vince Young...he is a bit of a boom or bust prospect...

I don't think Tangini wants this guy...

But with a top five pick you either should be able to make an impact right away for the team, or when it's a QB you are going to build your team around that QB.
All I'm saying is that I would be very scared to be building the future of the Jets around Vince Young! My opinion!

LOL guy has athletic talent..really went out on the limb with that one..Young is defintely a project whos proday workout really did not show many teams much. His 40 time was not as fast as people expected especially running on turf/wonderlic scores/throwing motion..The guy is a great college QB but at 4 the Jets would be hard pressed to take a chance on a QB especially with a new coaching staff and FO. If Young faltered it would burn them big time. The Jets would most likely go for a safer pick in the best DE (Williams) or OL (D-Brick) in the draft.

If the Jets are passing on any player, be it Vince Young, Jay Cutler, Mario Williams, or anyone else, because they are afraid to take a risk with their pick then they don't deserve to ever get out of the basement of the NFL.

You take him if you think that he's going to be the best quarterback in the draft. If you think his game will translate over to the nfl level then I don't know how you wouldn't take him. Plus since scouts generally agree that it will take him 1 to 2 years to get used to an nfl offense then you take him knowing that.
The team that drafts Vince Young is going to either get a BOOM or BUST player. He's not as "blue chip" as some other players but his upside is through the roof.

The thing is, the boom that comes along with Vince Young could bring the Jets to the Superbowl. I'd take the risk.

    Regarding his:
throwing motion - he's 6'5". So what if he loses a couple inches because of his throw? His throw seems to work and is very accurate.

Wonderlic score - I question his motivation to prepare, not his intelligence. Vince hasn't really had the right attitude in preparing for the NFL (ie: the wonderlic test and his initial decision to forgo the 40 for his pro-day when its common knowledge to run a 40 on your pro-day). If he has good football smarts and can prepare for the NFL, then I'm all for him. If not, Mangini won't touch Vince come draft day.

Speed - If Young has prepared for the 40, he might have run 4.4-4.5, but 4.57 is still very fast especially for a big guy.

Young reminds me of Roethlisberger with his pocket presence and manuverability. If we can take Young and groom him for a half year to a year, I'm all for it. I'd still be happy with Mario, Ferguson, Cutler or Hawk. I just hope whoever we're taking will improve this team dramtically. I think Young gives us the best chance to do that.

Won't survive in the NFL with his pocket presence.....especially if we get him at number 4 and give away some of the chance to rebuild the O line effectively.

He will continually be isolated in the open field and cut down like a crop at harvest time. He will be injured very quickly playing NFL, and then you'll be relying on his arm: Vince Young is not being drafted because of his arm. He may well win games for his team.....but he'll never take an NFL team to the Super Bowl.

The Jets FO would be commiting suicide by taking him at number 4: if another team wants him lower down, let them have him; trade down and build depth in the team. Vince Young is the draft equivalent of an internet company in the year 1999: promises the world, but when you dig a little deeper you realise those promises are nothing but hot air. Let another club buy into the Young Vince Dream at number 4, and let them pay the Jets the Earth for it: Young Vince will be Bust Vince at the NFL level. The internet bubble burst, and so will Vince Young's. End of.

vince truely is a scrambling qb. himself alone could change the way other defenses prepare to play us. leinart is a good qb, but he needed a push against that notre dame game. it is definetely a huge risk but it's one that i can live with.

I don't want him if he's available. I prefer people who can read proficiently. Having worked with people from every economic and educational level of society in my short-lived life experience, I've found that illiterate people are often beset by a litany of other issues as a result of the frustration arising from their incompetence. If Vince Young is as dumb as his scores indicate, passing would be smart. Ditto on Cutlet, whose decision making leaves something to be desired.

There is no way I'd take Young with the #4 pick.

Why would we want to draft him?

If we draft him we could probably tell him that a million only has three zero?s ? which would make him a pretty cheap date.

Where else do you get a quarterback for four-hundred-fifty bucks?

I'd take Young over Matt Leinart. Anybody who saw him win the national championship saw a guy take over a game, he was a man amongst boys out there. On the wonderlic score, and other pro-day numbers: I'll take a player over a workout warrior, every time. I think the wonderlic is useless useless.

I think back when the jets drafted Vilma, they took a guy who was supposedly a little too small to play middle linebacker, and a guy wasn't even the best athlete on his own team(D.J Williams was supposedly the better athlete/linebacker).

LoL. We don't have time for a project?

WE WERE 4-12. We have some god damn time before we ever start competing again.
