Well, Al Davis is certainly an ass most of the time, I can imagine him holding Ryan hostage until the day before the season starts and firing him right then to promote from within just out of spite, no matter how little sense that makes.
I have no doubt that Al Davis probably did this to spite the Jets. I still believe that he randomly started Tuiasosopo against us a few years ago to pull us out of the Reggie Bush sweepstakes. If this were any other owner and any other franchise, I'd seem ludicrous, but this guy is a few cards short of a full deck. -X-
I know i'm splitting hairs but i dont think Wade Phillips runs the same 3-4 correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't he run a one gap 3-4 as opposed to our 2 gap 3-4?
the raiders almost gave the head coaching position to rob ryan before kiffin took the job. ryan was being seriously considered by al davis. should kiffin fail again next season, it wouldn't surprise me to see ryan coach of the raiders. after all, davis doesn't have many coaches lining up at his door for the raiders job. he has to keep what few options he has left around, just in case!!!
I consider the Raiders' decision to keep Ryan a "blessing in disguise." I would have had serious doubts about Ryan coming here, no matter what his previous relationship with Mangini. Garth Brooks' hit song says it all: "Thank God For Unanswered Prayers." 22nd against the run for 4 years in a row? Something's wrong with that no matter what.
yes it is. it's called lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball. much like the jets.... it say's a lot about what davis thinks of kiffin (doubts maybe) that he would over rule kiffin's firing of ryan!!!
If he doesn't get a HC job, then do you think he'd consider it? Al Davis will do his typical let everyone hire someone then fire.
If Jones gets ride of Phillips after this season, asssuming they get to the NFC Champ game (at least) it would be retarted.
Don't believe it just yet Jets fans... Despite all the haterade many of you are drinking I am here to encourage and enlighten you. That pathetic excuse of a two sentence 'press release' that has been twisted into some kind of ringing endorsement MEANS NOTHING. I, like many in the Raider Nation, are still confident that Ryan will be wearing GREEN next season. Kiffin wants this cat out, and I don't believe in this case that Al is shoving him down Kiffins throat, either. I know most here just assume that Al is meddling and forcing this on Kiffin, but what is much more likely with particular situation is that Kiffin has given Al the short list of guys he wants to replace the 'fat cat' with, and Al has said 'fine, but Ryan DOES NOT LEAVE until we sign the replacement'. Word is, Kiffin wants Raheen Morris, from his dad's staff, who is under contract for next season AND has a playoff game this weekend. Most likely, if the bucs will let us promote him (you say no way, but the guy is african american and the rooney rule would really make the bucs look BAD here if they refused the guy a promotion) either Raheen will be brought in AFTER the bucs get it handed to them (suppose in these parts that may not be the outcome you all are looking for), that our replacement will be SIGNED and Ryan will be on the first plane East. Personally, my take on this 'generalized' press statement put out by the Raiders (by the way NOTHING yet from Kiffin OR Ryan) is that it's nothing more than delaying the inevitable. Al Davis hates when the press jumps the gun on a decision he has or is going to make. This is exactly the kind of 'statement' that was released after Adam Shefter reported last year that Art Shell was going to be fired, and of course Adam was RIGHT. BTW, Adam already reported that Ryan was being fired. So, what I am saying is, there is still HOPE that Ryan can stop ruining OUR DEFENSE and come here and DESTROY YOURS:rofl2: Just kidding. Kind of:wink: As a side note: Cheatriots Suckfftopic:
