Jets DBs Andre Dyson and Erik Coleman aren't expected back with the team in 2008. Dyson will have to be released from his contract, which seems likely after he fell off the game-day roster in 2007. Coleman's rookie deal is up and he will find work as a backup elsewhere. Dyson seemed to turn his career around with the Jets in 2006, but fell deep into Eric Mangini's doghouse this year. Asomugha (and Samuel) will demand Nate Clements type money. Should they really be spending like that for the secondary? We already have Revis and Rhodes will demand a new deal sooner rather than later. How about Marcus Trufant, I believe he'll be a FA this year.
if we signed a conor we can be crazy we could just put vilma at fs, wouldnt that be great and get an inside lb in the second round and try to get the oline fixed up by trading down in the first round
I don't see any way in hell this guy ever hits FA. The Raiders would be foolish to allow that to happen, but then again ... If somehow he made it to FA, we already addressed O-line via FA, and still have the cash I'd love to see him in green and white. He'd probably demend mega-bucks though. I'd much rather spend big money on a RT and LG.
If you make a priority list for the Jets, a DB- CB or S - is all the way at the bottom of the list. DL, OL, LB, WR, QB are all higher priorities with the lines being huge needs. There is no way the Jets are spending the big money it takes to sign a top notch FA CB. It would be stupid.
Poteat has actually played well this season. Face it folks, we don't need two Revisses (Revi? Nexus-Nexi Revis-Revi?), we need a pass rush. Elam and Smith may not be the best safeties (far from it, indeed), but they are aggressive and allow Rhodes to make plays. Secondary should not be a concern.
Add Haynesworth & K. Dansby to that list as well. That pretty much blocks us from getting any top flight D-line or LBs. I'm not counting Lance Briggs in there because I dont think he would fit in the 3-4 well for the amount of money he is going to want. He is more worth the dough playing outside LB in the 4-3. Spending a hugh chunk of our available salary cap money (if not all of it) on either Samuel or Asoughma will guarantee only 1 sure thing. The opposing QB will have to wait an additional second to throw the ball due to better coverage. At least he wont be the least bit pressured to do so albeit for our still absent pass rush.
You know, there are people out there thinking 'Kerry Rhodes on the Jets is still not signed to a long term contract, we should have him on our list of prospective FAs for 2009'.
Posted in the Ryan thread. WON'T HAPPEN Nnamdi is a FRANCHISE PLAYER for the Raiders, and even more importantly, he is a CLASS ACT AND DAVIS/KIFFIN LOVE HIM. I don't blame you though, he IS THE BEST PLAYER WE HAVE. Ironically, his first two years in the league we would have GLADLY traded him for a diet Coke and bag of Skittles (seriously), but he is the EPITOMY of a player who DEVELOPED to greatness.
I don't see the Raiders letting the best corner in the NFL go. Anyway, it would be a waste of money with our pass rush, or lack there of
Unless the Raiders' cap situation is poor, I have to agree with you about Nnamdi being franchised. I think Asante Samuel is a much more realistic option because the Pats may not have the ability to keep both Samuel and Moss.
He's not the best corner in the NFL, he's ONE of the best, but not THE best. He's the most underrated...you can give him that title.
The DL is without a doubt the biggest need on defense. I don't know how many of you watched the Georgia/Hawaii game, but that game showed how valueable a DL is. They were in the backfield so fast that they almost didn't even need DB's. Once again the line is so underrated. You don't need "the best corner in the NFL" if your DL is constantly putting the QB on his butt.
Franchise tag aside, from a fan standpoint I'd pray that we get a shot over Asomugha over Samuel, as I think he is just a better player in general, and that Samuel will end up being a waste of money if we bring him in.
