It is looking like Nolan may be fired by the 49ers. What do you guys think of him as a DC option? He has ties to the Jets (DC under Al Groh), coaches the 3-4, and is in his coaching prime (48). While he may not be a great HC, he is still a good DC. DbJ
I like Mike Nolan...injuries killed the Niners this season. He might get a pass and keep his job, but if he's fired, I'd love to see him as the Jets coordinator. Nolan is my favorite candidate, even over Rex Ryan.
Before its over with, I'm thinking that Wade Phillips name will come up too. Jason Garrett will be gone very quickly if Jerry Jones doesn't make him the HC. The conventional wisdom on the situation was that Phillips is a one-year seatwarmer for Garrett, now lets see what happens in the next few weeks.
Nolan is the kind of guy that if he comes in and fixes the defense but the Jets decided to move on from Mangini they could promote him to HC without a problem.
Mangini should be the defensive coordinator of this team. Clearly, he took over the game planning after the bye this year and last year, and that's what made the difference. At the end of the day, Belichick is making the defensive schemes for his team. This is why Mangini was hired here in the first place. Whoever he brings in to call the play by play on defense, he needs to stay actively involved in the D game planning next year.
I'm wary of anyone whose success came with the Ravens. So far, Nolan and Marvin Lewis have done nothing without that Ravens personnel. I'd prefer Rob Ryan.
We already have our Dcoordinator...Rob Ryan...it hasn't been announced, but it is heavily rumored that he already has plans to come to us.
Hope your right...but Nolan wouldn't be so bad if only because Terrell Suggs had his best seasons when Nolan was the D-coordinator for the Ravens. Plus, Nolan really seems to have a knack with linebackers.
I had this suspicion about halfway through the season, but there is no evidence of this so it's all speculation at this point. At any rate, it seems like it's already a foregone conclusion that Rob Ryan has the buddy-connection with Mangini... and I would love to see what Ryan can bring to the table on defense, because Bob Sutton seems out of his element.
49ers will fire Mike Nolan? That would be very classless on their part considering Nolan lost his father this season and his father was a major figure in 49ers history.
mangini has been doing the defense since there bye week and they were ok just let him do it with someone as a name deff cord
That has nothing to do with anything. It's a business. If you can't cut it you can't cut it. If he was having trouble coping he should have taken a leave of absence. I don't think they are firing Nolan. I heard they will strip some of his control over the personnel and rearrange some of the staff but keep him another year. Not that he deserves it.
