So says young pup Jenny V of the Newark Star-Ledger. Here it is: Defensive backs coach Mike MacIntyre has accepted the defensive coordinator position at Duke. Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton is expected to be fired after the defense struggled in the first half of the season for the second straight year. "He (Sutton) is somebody that tries his best, he puts his all into it," Rhodes said. "But it's a business as well. So we have to see." Mangini said he'll evaluate his entire staff in the coming days. Mangini continued his praise of NT Sione Pouha, who had a strong second half of the season, highlighted by his eight-tackle performance against Tennessee. Pouha was the first name Mangini mentioned when asked who exceeded expectations. http://www.nj.com/jets/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1199165719238070.xml&coll=1
Coles will be back next season for sure, Mangini loves this guy and uses him as an example.......I say give him the long term deal just dont break the bank.
I'd be comfortable with giving Coles 2 or 3 years, nothing more. It will be interesting to see what happens with Sutton...
There's just no possible way Sutton will keep his job, especially when Rob Ryan might be available. Two years in a row now the defense did nothing before the bye until Mangini got involved. Sutton seems like a guy who's a hard working type of coach who tries to get the most out of his players, but he's just not that creative when it comes to scheming.
I liked this quote from Coles in that article: "The worst-case scenario is I'm back here next year playing under the same contract," Coles said. "That isn't too bad for me." I like this attitude, and the $5 million deal he has lined up for next year really isn't that bad, is it?
Exactly... And I would rather have Coles end his career as a New York Jet... Than on any other team. This player has played his ass off and has been a team player since he has been a Jet, he went to the Redskins... And came back to the Jets. Even if keeping him on this team hurts us as a team in the long run, It's worth it in terms of showing players team loyality and showing the players that as a organization we care...
I can't see Coles getting a long term deal at the Jets, he's too old and beaten. A trade would get the best value from him, it's possible that he'll start going downhill production wise next year.
They should give Coles a nice extension. Let's be honest, if healthy he is our best reciever and the guy the other team wants to take away. They shouldn't OVER pay him(Foot problems scare me) but he did everything for this franchise that Chrebet did and more.
no long term deals for WRs who are starting to break down, cannot go long, and have a concussion history in the making. that would be insane.
who cares? they pay millions to guys and rightfully expect them to play their asses off. when their asses are gone they get rid of them.. this is a BUSINESS, and the business is winning, not showing appreciation. I do not care who finishes their career as a Jet. I only want to know what the record was this past season. Off 4-12, I say no one should ask for contract extensions. If the team chooses to give them, that is their business.
That would be the FO/CS keeping that one thing in mind, not the player. Kendall made out just fine in the end, it's the Jets that got screwed.
I would not put Coles in the same league as Chrebet, but I see him in more of a Chrebet role if he stays here. We need a true #1 WR as a true downfield threat; that is also defintiely on the off-season wish list.
Give Coles a raise....just dont break the bank. Coles has taken a beating the past two years...Its well deserved IMO. Just don't let it get ugly, also good riddance to Sutton!
I have second thoughts about bring back Coles. He's had several concussions and has been injured. His age is starting to catch up to him and he's losing a step. How about trading Vilma to the Bengals for Chad Johnson? With that said, I do like Coles but I do think his most productive years are behind him. Why should the Jets give him a big contract? :jets:
