Lord - Well, this year Brady's is 8.3 while Chad's only 6.8. (Natch). But if you're gonna' give some of Chad's yards to Coles then you've GOT to give of Brady's yards to Moss, right? Last year? Chad was better yards per throw!!! 6.9 to Brady's 6.8. I really think a LOT of the Pat's success this year is about Moss. You've GOT to admit that, right? No Moss OR Branch last year and Brady looks human doesn't he? (I'm getting my stats from nfl.com if you're interested in checkin' em.)
He actually used YPA not YPC. YPC would be a much more telling stat, and as my research earlier this season proved, Chad's would be as low as anyone in football. I actually did earlier in the season, after watching and rewatching games, and breaking down stats, Chad's average yards in the air per completion, so as to take YAC out of the equation. He had a lower percentage of his passes (under 25% I believe) travel 10 yards in the air, than any starting QB in the league through week 7. A guy like Chad boosts his YPA numbers (and subsequently his completion % and QB Rating), because if he drops back on 3rd and 10, and there is nothing WIDE open down field, he checks down and takes a 3-5 yard gain. That's 3-5 yards averaged into his average yards per completion. Other QBs, look downfield on 3rd and 10, and if there is a small window, try to make the throw. If the ball falls incomplete, it's 4th down (the same result Chad achieved) except these guys get a 0 averaged into their average yards per attempt. Factor that scenario in 5 times a game or more for the duration of their careers, and the numbers look similar for Chad and Brady. Except Brady is leading his team to more TDs, more points, more 1st downs, and more wins.
I think KC should start, just to further analyse what we have as a QB. What's there to lose? ricky williams
Like Beaman said above, Chad makes the most amount of under 10 yard throws in the entire league, and that kind of thing does help his YPA tremendously. And Moss is a great receiver, but he isn't amazing after the catch. He's a big guy that goes up and gets balls, a lot of times in the endzone. However, Coles and Cotchery both catch slants and take them up field, etc. How many times last year did one of them catch an under 10 yard pass and then take it for 30-40. I remember numerous occasions. And last year, Brady had no offensive weapons at all, Chad had Leon, Cotchery, Coles, and Baker, so I think that's a little warped.
well, I'm just sayin' that wether it's yards after the catch OR just being athletic, getting open and catching jump balls, Moss and Branch before him are simply better than any reciever's the Jets have had since, I don't know, Al Toon maybe. Again, don't get me wrong. We had a good thing with S. Moss, Chrebet & Coles during Chad's first run. (And of course his numbers were better.) But BIG ATHLETIC recievers help QB's stats too. That's all I'm saying.
Chad Hater here 2 cups of coffee down the hatch. No need tearing you up that would be rubber necking. It's time to stop slowing down traffic looking at an accident that has already been cleaned up.
Brady had more TD passes last year than Chad has ever had in any of his 8 seasons in the NFL with much worse WR than Chad has ever had.
