based on reports i have read it seems as if clemens is going to start. He better be 100% because mangini should not be risking the health of his future quarterback (as of now)
With our offesnive line if Clemens cant go I'd rather see Tui or even Brad Smith at QB, I can't watch another game with Chad Pennington at the helm.
Yeah, there's no point at all in putting an offense on the field that is listless and just waiting for the turnover or punt, or occasional long-gainer that sets up a rare TD. If Clemens is not able to go I want to see Tui.
It's funny, where would the Jets have been the last 5 years without #10? We'd be seeing jouneyman QB after jouneyman QB coming in to fill Vinny's spot while enduring loosing season after loosing season, Chad helped bring this team back to life again and gave us something to cheer about again, how many great seasons? How many great playoff games? Now our offense sucks this year for a number of reasons, none of which the QB should be blamed for, If Chad was the problem then when Clemens came in this team should have taken off, but it was as bad or worse without Chad. To turn your back so quick on a guy who's done so much and still can, watch and see what Chad can still do if he does leave for another team who actaully can run the ball and pass protect, meanwhile we'll be sitting here with the second comings of Browning Nagle with good old #11.
Pennigton has done a lot for this franchise, but I can understand peoples fustrations with no such thing as a vertical passing game. It's time to move on at Qb and we don't know if Clemens is the answer, but we need to find out.
I just cannot really buy that. We have no idea what we would have been with a different QB. Maybe worse, maybe better.
A QB who was not fragile might have developed into a strong 10 year guy. We'll never know. QB's who have come into the NFL since 2002 and are currently starting and performing at a very high level: Tony Romo, David Garrard, Carson Palmer and Ben Roethlisberger. Then there are a half dozen playing quite well but not at a star level. Chad has only been a star in one season: his first.
he played about 26 games in his first 6 years. the o-line neglect was on badway. letting guys leave without adequate replacements. to be fair, you can't blame his injuries on him. however, after the 2002 season, teams had the book on him and he did not have the arm necessary to back off the defenses.
Yep, and for all the people saying the Jets did not support him well: he had the 2nd best rushing attack and the 4th best defense on his side in 2004 and went 9-6 with it including playoffs. Chad is no way the last piece for a contender next year unless they're looking for 10-6 and a 2nd round loss in the playoffs at best.
He was 6-1 until he tore his rotator cuff that year. He was on having a pro-bowl caliber year. Injuries ruined this guys career unfortunately, but he has plenty left in the tank for a team that is built. There's no point dwelling on what could have been if Bradway wasn't a retard.
Look at the Jets history and tell me you would give back everything CP has provided over the last few years. As sad as it is, he leads the Jets in most passing stats for the post season, that in itself speaks to the weakness of the franchise and to the QB's we have had.
Chad's Stats Okay, everyone ALWAYS talks about Chad's arm strength. Well, if that's true, then overall you'd think that QBs like Brady would have a MUCH higher yards per throw average than "dump it off" Pennington, right? WRONG!!! Look it up. BOTH of them, lifetime. 7.2. That's AVERAGE yards per throw. EXACTLY THE SAME!! So why has one of them just gone undefeted and won 3 SB's while the other one never got his team out of the second round of the playoffs? The list is long, but here are some guesses. No, Branch, no Randy Moss. (Coles is good, but come on!) No decent OL (need I say more?) No decent D (Finally changing, too late for this year No Belicheck (Wasn't he our coach for a minute back there? Coulda' shoulda!) No Consistant running game (Could of this year. See coach.) Etc. etc. So let's stop blaming our woes on Chad. Two surgeries to his throwing arm and he comes back as comback player of the year? Only to have Baby Belicheck & Bradway screw up the OL and not set up the running game and not accomadate a talent like Vilma, making him play a type of defense he's not suited for. Chad should get a medal for how he's played considering the circumstances. The Jets lost for MANY reasons this year. Chad was NOT a major one. (I'll concede the picks in the fourth quarters, but again, a LOT of that has to do with the line, the recievers, the lack of good running and the fact that they were ALWAYS coming from behind, etc.) I rest my case. - greenblood69
His post is about to be twisted and distorted and let the bashing commence! Maybe another few years in the cellar might make some people appreciate that CP brought some sucess to a historically pitiful franchise. @greenblood69 Pennington always had a stellar intermediate passing game, until the injuries caught up with him. Even with a bum shoulder he shows he can chuck it perfectly down the field given time. He just can't hit those intermediate sideline/seam routes anymore, which are critical in the NFL. Even with his limitations, he is a hellva lot better that 30-40% of the starting QB's in the NFL.
Good QBs who can lead teams like Chad did don't come along very often. if this is Chads last game I will see him go with a heavy heart. He doesn't make the plays he used to and forces the game too much now, but I would be happier if our Jets faithful showed him some respect for what he did for us. KC would have shown by now if he was our guy.
Chad's Stats Thanks for the kind welcome guys. I guess the Chad haters haven't had their coffee yet. I'm sure they WILL tear me up, but I'm kinda' lookin' forward to it. I know I'm a rookie but I can take it!
Whether or not Chad Pennington brought success to this franchise and whether or not it was because of him or a great supporting class, he really doesn't have it anymore. You can only survive so long on 5 yard drags and outs and quick slants and screens. Guys creep up. With absolutely no threat of a vertical passing game (beside a lobbed deep ball, I mean like a 25 yard strike down the middle of the field or a 15 yard out) the defense creeps up and not only can they jump routes, but they can stuff the run much easier. Clemens may not have looked perfect yet, but he has shown flashes of poise, like when he stands in and takes the hit or scrambles. Plus, he has a decent amount of arm strength. Can we not jump all over the guy after 8 games behind the worst offensive line of all time?
You are right to a point, but I think you using average yards per completion is discrediting your argument. First of all, the Jets I believe have been in the top 3 or 4 in the league in YAC with Cotchery and Coles, so you cannot use that stat accurately. And 2002 was a great year for Chad, when he had arm strength. Look at the stats for the last two years if you have to, with yards per completion, and I guarantee you Brady's will be miles higher.
