"What kind of GM doesn't get a player who they offered more money to? Same old Jets!"

Jets | Team offered Runyan $3.5 million per season
    Sat, 25 Mar 2006 13:54:26 -0800

Reuben Frank, of PhillyBurbs.com, reports the New York Jets offered free agent OT Jon Runyan (Eagles) $3.5 million per season. Runyan later turned down the offer to return to the Philadelphia Eagles for just over $4 million per year for three years.

Now they'll just complain that we're too cheap.

You can never win with some of the people on this board.

I think 3.5 would have been a bit steep for Runyan, and 4 mill is definatly to much.

Can't fault Tannenbaum. Runyon was using us to up the Eagles offer. The only way he was coming was if Philly cut him out completely.

How do you know that? It could also be a poor selling job by Tannenbaum, especially since so many players invited to Hofstra elected to go elsewhere. Word gets around, players see Mr. T. leaking his ultimatum to Pennington to the press and his treatment of Abraham and Mawae and may not want anything to do with the Jets unless there is no other choice.

Not like its anything new with Tanngini, they couldn't attract a single coach (including the HC) who ever interviewed with another team, not one. For some reason, experienced coaching candidates and free agents are universally telling Tannenbaum, thanks, but no thanks.

Explain the coaching decisions rather than just blame Runyon.

  8. Exactly. Let them bitch...and the results of the moves will prove to be the final say.

Offseasons arent won on All-Stars added or lost. woopdie do you get an A in FA or an F in draft but everyone knows that is a joke.
Its how its done on the field but your Deadskins will never win a championship as long as Snyder is an owner. It shows you have nothing else better to do than to criticize a 4-12 team when your team is nothing to write about also.

man, Mr. Negativity... you never have a positive thought around here. Are you privvy to some info that the rest of the board don't have? Are you a fly on the wall in negotiations?

If I remember correctly, it seemed Mangini was the candidate from the day Duh Herm was fired, so to say he they couldn't attract a coach is absurd... It seems they interviewed a couple, and got the guy they wanted.

Can it be that some coaches just didn't want to work on a team that was rebuilding and went to teams that are actually contenders, or went to teams that they have previous relationships with new regimes / current head coaches?

No... it can't be any of that... it must be that we are that bad of an organization...

It's fans like you that give all Jet fans a bad name... Pathetic

You know, while I respect your right to have an opinion, there is absolutely no support for your opinion. None. Reread your post and I think that you will find that almost your entire post is entirely inferred from what you percieve to be a discrepancy in the number of free agents who sign with the Jets versus the number that visit.

The first level of doubt that I would express at this opinion is the actual fact that most free agents don't sign with the Jets. The reality of free agency is that no team signs every player who visits. I don't know if the Jets end up signing a smaller percentage of free agents who visit, but its definately something that you might want to do a little research into before you form such a hard opinion. We have already signed 3 free agents. That seems about on par to me.

The second level of doubt is that there is no factual basis in your entire rationalization of why players supposedly do not sign here. I could as easily justify this supposed fact by saying that the players do not like Chad Pennington, or Lavernues Coles, or the guys who does the laundry.

Stop assuming that you already know the answer and trying to fit any new fact into your predetermined bias.

BFD. He used the JETS to get $$out of his former employer. Ive done it before.
he's a good player that I wish the JETS got, but not worth breaking the bank over, especially at his age. Oh well :drunk:

I'll bite, but since you are so knowledgable on the subject, why don't you list for us the stable of free agents studs that have visited and then shunned the Jets for another offer?

I'm still behind Tangini, however it was very unfortunate that we didn't sign Runyan. He would have been worth the 4+ mil. he commanded. With what linemen are left in FA, its just the type of year that he IS worth it. Yeah, we can get some good linemen in the draft, but we need some experience and he would have been perfect. Any QB we get/have will need some semblance of a shield in order to learn anything. That is why it is imperative that do whatever is necessary to shore up the line with both experience and draftees.
This is one miss that I am hurting about, and I'm a thrifty mofo.

Well it seems that you have the inside scoop, since the FO does not leak contract negotiations to the media. Not like Bradway and Herm. I have ask this before but you never seem to answer. Not every FA that visits the Jets were necessarily offered contracts. How many FA visited the Jets? Of those how many were offered contracts? Of those how many signed with jets? Or how many passed on the Jets for someone else?

What ultimatum to Pennington? He said in several papers that he wanted to get a deal done. Treatment of Mawae? He is an older player and the team wanted to get younger. It happens all the time in the NFL. Dallas just relased Larry Allen, so what? Oh yes how they treated Abe was HORRIBLE!!! Offering him 8million to play for one year. THE BASTARDS!!! Then sent him to the team he wanted. The assholes.

And you keep spouting this coaching crap and it never makes sense. Acutally Tony Wise, Jimmy Raye and Rick Lyle all interviewed with other teams. So you are wrong on that. And teams inquired about Denny Marcin but the Jets wanted to keep him. Tom Sutton is a Bill Parcells guy. Parcells has been singing the guys praises for years, even though he chose to stay with the Jets when Parcells left. Parcells is an excellent evaluator of coaches. I have no doubt he recommended Sutton to Mangini. And I will trust the word of HOF coach in Parcells, than you. Get your facts straight.

Oh and no coaching decisions have been made yet. These are all organizational decisions. At least make sense when you troll.

Were you in the room with Tannenbaum? How do you know what they're telling him? If you were there, how many fish does he have left in his fish tank?

The bottom line is that you have no idea about what goes on behind closed doors. Quit trolling and go back to rooting for your real team.
