This would be an undoubtedly sweet deal and afford a trade happy front office plenty of ammunition leading up to the NFL Draft.

"But the Jets (3-12) were big winners in that they kept pace with the Rams (3-12) and Falcons (3-12) for the second pick overall in the NFL draft behind the Dolphins (1-14) and they got a solid performance from Pennington that could push his value to a second-round pick.

Furthermore, the Jets may also be able to get a second- or third-round pick for linebacker Jonathan Vilma, who also isn't expected to return, as they attempt to retool their offensive and defensive lines and perhaps add a playmaker on offense, either at running back or wide receiver.

They're not expected to draft a quarterback early because Kellen Clemens remains the heir apparent and is expected to start next week against the Chiefs ... if fully recovered from a left shoulder/rib injury."

Who would give us a second round pick for Pennington with his contract? Or Vilma coming off a season-ending knee injury?

Chris Mortenesen of ESPN thinks that Vilma isn't even worth a third now for most teams due to his injury. Right now all the trade rumors are just speculation and that includes coles too.

I think Baltimore would be perfect fit for Vilma, as Lewis is getting up there in age...

Shit, I think we all know GM's have their bad moments. Let's hope we get lucky with a few NYJ players on the market.

Vilma can barely walk. He plays poker down here at the Hard Rock in Hollywood Florida and he has a pair of crutches with his leg is stretched out. It has been about a month and a half past surgery. Simply extrapolating, it was most likely not (99% sure) an arthroscopic procedure.

That means it was a more serious problem and procedure. That also means he may not be ready by the beginning of next season. It stands to reason that another team will tell our FO to get fucked if they ask for a 1st or 2nd for a player coming off major knee surgery. So Mortenson may in fact know what he is talking about.

it may have been a microfracture surgery which can sideline an athlete for more than a year....

Pennington is so good I bet that we can trade him straight up for Adrian Peterson.

Don't hate, appreciate...and come on guys. Pennington has only been sacked 30 times this season... For a loss of 140 yards.

Pennington may get us a 4th if we're lucky.

Vilma coming off injury is at best a 4th as well, and that's pushing it. I'd rather package him for a proven player if possible.

I would not assume that we can get anything for any of these guys at this point. We may get offers and we may have a lot of teams standing around waiting to see who we wind up cutting.

If I had a OL and running game I would give a 2nd for Penny any day. Especially if I ran a WCO. You put CP in a WCO and give him a running game and a line and he can be a top 10 QB in the league, easy. If some team can get him for a pick lower than a 2nd rounder is getting a steal.

This was true before the injuries. Beginning of 2004 he had all the things you're talking about and he was a top 10 QB, probably 8th or thereabouts. Then he got hurt twice and he hasn't been anywhere near a top 10 QB since. You could hand him the 2004 Jets right now and he'd go 8-8 at best.

Probably a reason why the Jets were so damn secretive about the nature of Vilma's injury

Teams will give us nothing for Vilma. He's a FA after next year. They will see if his knee is ok.

Vilma needs to stay, he and Harris can do some damage together....Barton and Hobson are the ones that need to be replaced...
