I don't disagree with this at all. But I also don't subscribe to the thinking that Clemens is a bust, based solely on the action we've seen this year.
^^ While I pretty much agree with your assessment of KC – now way Chad is the answer for this team or any other team in the NFL for that matter. KC hasn’t looked like anything remotely close to something we can build on. The sunshiners can make all of the excuses in the world but it doesn’t take three years to evaluate a quarterback anymore. After 5 – 7 games; you got what you got. I’d look for Mandipshit to seek out a veteran to compete with KC (and win) for the starting job next year…maybe if we’re lucky we can get Donavan since he looks to be done in Philthy.
Do you know that'll kill our cap? You can't have a "franchise QB" without good blocking. I wouldn't mind on keeping Chad...but he wants to start, so in my mind he's gone. I don't see any franchise QB's in this year draft....certainly not worth 30-40 mil guaranteed.
So you are saying that Clemens is in no way a franchise QB? You have seen enough that you are 100% convinced that Clemens is going nowhere. With the horrendous play of our offensive line it would be impossible to judge anyone effectively. We must give Clemens at leaast 1 year with an offensive line that is reasonably decent at pass blocking and opening holes for the running game before we turn in the report card. To do it any other way is simply unfair and IMO would show very poor coaching judgement. If I were coaching, I would focus my full atention on correcting the woes of the offensive line in FA and the draft. I would not waste a pick on a QB this year anyway under any circumstances. This is a pretty thin year for QB's in the draft anyway - and I think there is nobody who has really distinguished themsleves as having superior NFL talent to what is already out there. That is my definition of a franchise QB. We now have a QB that is fully capable if hitting a receiver 50 yards + down field; let's give Clemens a receiver with the speed to give this potential connection a chance to work - right now, we really do not have that guy. Let's improve the defense: If we could stop the run consistently and actually put on some reasonable puss rush instead of giving an opposing QB time to tie his shoes and then pass the ball, we might actually influence some of the predicaments we self-induce on our own QB. Translation: Our defense can be our QB's own worst enemy.
becasue he can not make all the throws need for an NFL offense anymore. Exactly what did he bring to the team against the pats? Surly not a offensive touchdown to speak of. 4.9 YPA and no touchdowns? Sounds more like a great day running than an NFL passing attack. Kellen may not be the answer, but Chad is done.
As much as anyone can say Chad is not a viable starting QB anymore. Things can change. Throwing the ball 50 plus yards every once and a while does not make you a good field general. Jeff George.
Shade, you've been here a LONG time, and have been a good poster in that time, but on this issue, you are the biggest troll on the board... Offer some insight, something intelligent, or don't join the conversation....
So the throw to McCareins means nothing? Oh I forgot only Clemens has a bad offensive line and WR that drop passes. When Chad is on the filed they don't count. So what is this "New" NFL offense that requires these throws that only Clemens can make?
If his rib is cracked let him heal and keep him out of this danger zone of a backfield anyway (thx trash clark clement etc). This kid is gonna be good no matter what some morons say and hopefully he can heal up 100% for next year.
Agreed, and what about this receiving corps KC has had to deal with? From my count, he's had a healthy WR corps for all of one play since he has been named starter - that play being the 50 yd flea flicker to Coles on the 2nd play of the Pittsburgh game. Cotchery is a decent #2, but McCareins, Smith and a hobbled Coles are as bad a WR crew as there is in the league. To completely give up on KC at this point is an overreaction - especially when you consider this OL and WR situation.
He really has shown nothing thus far. Though it is a small sample size, I really can't think of a play that jumps out at me and being like damn, he's something special. He underthrows, throws over the head, and stands in the pocket forever... pocket presence isn't something you acquire out of nowhere. Those of you saying he is essentially a rookie, according your definition: Brady Pennington Roethlisberger Romo Philip Rivers Carson Palmer Jay Cutler ETC ETC ETC were all "rookies" since they didnt get that many snaps in practice before they were named starters. Some of them may be rookies, but a lot of them aren't, and all of them showed something in their 'trial' period that made you believe in them. Also, same excuses apply to Chad. No O-line, bad receivers, no running game, and dubious coaching. I don't care who QB's this team as long as we win, and I think we have a better shot at that with Chad then KC.
Oh yeah? Brady Pennington Roethlisberger Romo Philip Rivers Carson Palmer Jay Cutler What do the above names have in common? Hint: they took over either a playoff team, or one that was knocking on the door. (Chad being the only possible exception.) Kellen Clemens? Took over a team that has managed just 3 wins all year, 2 of which were against a team that took 14 chances before managing a win. Comparing Clemens to any of those guys, when you factor in the situations they inherited, is borderline retarded. That said, if you gave me a good offensive line, with a healthy receiver corps, and I had all the receivers we do now, along with the same RBs, I'd probably say Pennington gives us the best chance to win, right now. But we don't have all of those pieces. By the time the line is capable of enough protection to allow a passing game to be effective, regardless of the QB, Chad will be 2 years older, and not any healthier. Give me Clemens, now, and next year. I want to know if he's the answer or we need to draft a guy to take over our fringe team then. Chad will be incapable of winning at that point. Sticking with him does the franchise absolutely no good, so why bother?
Borderline retarded? Did you even look anything up or did you just want to attack me because you hate Chad? Romo -- Cowboys didn't make the Playoffs in 2005 9-7 Palmer -- Bengals didn't make the Playoffs in 2003 8-8 Brady -- Pats didn't make the playoffs in 2000 5-11 Roethlisberger -- Steelers didn't make the playoffs in 2003 6-10 Rivers -- Chargers didnt make the playoffs in 2005 9-7 So every QB I listed inherited a team that didn't make the playoffs the year before. Somehow that means that they inherited contenders and I'm a retard. That leaves us with Pennington. His team made the Playoffs in 2001, Then he inherited a team with a 'bad record' Hmm sound familiar... Kellen Clemens. His team made the playoffs in 2006, then he inherited a team with a 'bad record' Doesn't look like their stories are going to the end same way.
