Hey all, First time posting though I've been on the site for a year or so. I probably log on twice a day, can't get enough Jets info/opinions. I must say I've been very impressed with many of the Posters here as far as their knowledge of salary caps, contracts, etc. I am a crazy Jets fan and I love the game, I can break down schemes with the best of them, but jeez I couldn't begin to decipher the complexities of the CBA and how it effected the Cap and all. Hence the sometimes 2-aday Logons.
    Anyway...
The draft. I've spent a lot of time trying to balance Need vs BPA, and I keep coming back to the same thing. With Jones at LT, I just don't see Fergy as a big enough upgrade to warrant a #4 Overall. I just can't see it. He VERY well may be a better player than Jones... but it's a matter of Degree Of Upgrade. Penny will not return to form, and Ramsay is a great move but nothing more than insurance.
Obviously C is a huge need, and we SEEM to be in the perfect spot for NM... and we need the most help with OL...
DR and SP can man a NT spot... they can... and Mangini'll try Thomas at OLB in a 3-4... How can the most rational plan (plan... a lot can change on draft day) not be Cutler/Leinart, and then Mangold, and then Max Jean Gilles???
I know we can all debate this 'til late April... but with Jones at LT, Martin/Blaylock/Houston, oft forgotten Bryan Thomas, I just don't see another attack that makes sense. And why give up the Mangold pick to go from Cutler (I have visions of Favre) to Leinart (I have visions of Montana) when you can make an argument that Cutler is at least as talented?
    Just my thoughts.

i can def. see some of your points....i have that same EXACT view on jones/ferg, and i def. agree with your take on nick mangold.

I however just can't see taking qb at #4i... feel that ramsey or chad will step up for us and prove they are the qb of our team this year and the future...i mean it's good to always have a backup plan, but to win it all you gotta take risks. We can get a huge impact player at 4 on the defensive side of the ball, or even trade down and get a offensive weapon like vernon davis or deangelo williams /lendale at 9 or 10....my opinion is that if our qbs suck this year, we can always take brady quinn or another higly rated qb in the top few picks which we would get next year

that said, i can understand if we do end up taking a qb at #4...i like all 3 of them in their own ways....i wouldn't mind vince young at all

    My first 3:

    4) AJ Hawk or Super Mario
    29) Mangold...or best available OG.
    35) Max Jean Gilles

AJ Hawk and Vilma is going to scare every team in the league for years to come. Mangold lets Kendall stay at his old position of G. Max Jean Gilles fills a need at RG and can also play RT.

i agree with the Lord on this one, Hawk and Vilma = very scary to OC then you give us 2 major OL upgrades and our offense becomes servicable. and Super Mario would not be a bad pick at all if we want to move thomas to OLB.... But as i have said before satying at four outways the benifits to move up and tag anybody in htis draft, there isn't a drop offf in talent until after pick 40 or so.... and we then should snag 3 first round prospects this year....

I still can't believe that Cutler benched pressed more reps at 225lbs than Max Jean Gilles. It wasn't even close...Cutler did 24 and Gilles did 19, which is sad for an O-Lineman. I know he's been hyped as a top guard but 19 reps for a o-lineman is like scoring a 15 on the wonderlick as a QB.

Here's a question - is Cutler better than Ramsey? Does anyone else see parallels between Ramsey and Vinny? OK, Ramsey wasn't picked quite as high as Vinny, but he was a 1st round pick. Both struggled early, threw lots of picks, got beat up a lot. And eventually, Vinny matured, and played a lot better.

As far as Cutler and Ramsey - I think the biggest advantage you can give Cutler is that Ramsey played a decent amount and hasn't done that well, whereas Cutler is much more unknown. Doesn't Ramsey have similar physical tools to Cutler?

As far as the draft goes, assuming we don't go QB, what I'd like to see in the top 3 picks are:
1 or 2 for the oline
A top defender (i.e. Super Mario or AJ)
    or A running back

Because the dropoff from D'Brick to #29 or #35 is not as great as the dropoff from the defenders, I'd probably rather see them go defense at #4, either Super Mario or AJ.

At 29 and 35, you have to get at least 1 oline, either Mangold or Winston or Jean-Gilles etc, and maybe 2. Or you could take a RB that has fallen, like Williams (my dream! :) ) or Maroney...

For what it's worth, I do not see the Jets staying at # 4. The pick is "too high" and will cost them too much, ie. they would have to sink in alot of $$ for one player - they want to keep the salary structure balanced. The problem is finding someone who will play the game and trade down with the Jets. My feeling is that there is more to the Abraham deal that meets the eye - I have a sneaking suspicion Denver wants a qb and will trade with the Jets for the 15th and 22nd picks if the qb they want is at #4. This will give the Jets #15,22,29,35 - much more balance and value. The Jets will be very active on draft day.

Our office needs to keep up the smoke screens and speculations, our trade down will happen on draft day when a team gets desperate for a player

Good job . With such a good first post you've saved yourself from being tourmented. BTW i completely agree that qb is our #1 need and with a guarentee that we'll get one of them idk why we wouldn't try and get one.

well a lot of people have had sneaking suspicions and/or "sources that worked for the eagles who sed runyon was signed with the jets." dont get me wrong i respect your opinion but why the hell woudl they want a QB. Jake Plummer is pretty damn good. if nothing elese, i see them taking a RB and a WR with those 2 picks. there is ntohing wrong with ashley lilee or rod smith, but smith is getting old and they just need more depth at WR. then they just lost their 1st and 2nd string rbs and are going to start RON FREAKIN DAYNE. i dont see that happening. they'll most likely take deangilo if he's still available at #15. and i dont know the WRs in the draft but i bet they take one with the #22 pick.

and i know its a jets site, but i like the broncos also so i had to have an opinion. and no i'm not a banwagon, i've always liked them as my #2 team in the AFC. if the jets were to play them though...jets all the way

Plummer is still not a slam dunk, plus they don't have a great backup. The new qb could be groomed for a year or two. Also, Denver may have a keen interest in M Williams. Denver hac a history of not being afraid to move their 1st round picks. Hey, let's face it this is wishful thinking.

personally, i see the jets trading down a few spots from #9 (maybe with the Raiders who might want Vince Young) then taking either a top defender (either AJ Hawk or Super Mario may be available) or the best offensive player available (Jay Cutler, Vernon Davis).

Then at 29 Nick Manogld (if Katnik shows that he cant start in the off-season program) but if Katnik shows a lot of promise than draft the best O-Lineman or DeAngelo Williams if he falls to us. O-Line at #35
