Hey Guys, let's shift gears for a moment or two, and let me just say that I am keeping an even temperment for tomorrow's game so as not to get to jacked up or too depressed according to the results (secretly I'm wishing for chris collinsworth's scenario to plat out in which we physically brutalize and smash their faces in with no less than 5 episodes of the training staff carting Pat's off the field). Having got that off my chest I wanted to say that I can't speak Highly enough about LC in terms of the way he has totally gotten the shit kicked out of him this tear and all he does is get up again and again and plead with the coach to put him in.... despite the season, the changes, the record etc. For a guy who was ill thought of in his college days, (department store incident) he has demonstrated more toughness, character, and maturity than any player I can remember in awhile, and this week he was recognized, at least by his team for his efforts.....count officially on the bandwagon for this especially tough SOB   (by cannizarro today in the post) The Jets awarded Coles with the Ed Block Courage Award. The award - named in honor of Ed Block, the longtime head athletic trainer of the then-Baltimore Colts who was a pioneer in his profession and a respected humanitarian - is given to the player who "shows outstanding courage." "No one is more deserving than 'LC' this season (the way) he fought through a lot of difficult things in terms of injuries, and I congratulate him for the award," Mangini said. "The main thing is that it was given to me and voted on by my teammates; that's the most important thing to take to heart," Coles said.
Coles is very good wide reciever, but he and clemens do not have good connection. maybe when they play more or next season it will be ok.
Hats off to Coles, he's definitely a leader by example and a very tough football player. In a season that is lost he's still out there playing through a lot of pain and giving his all. That says a lot about what he's about. Next time you hear some media report trying to make him look like a malcontent because of something he said, remember what he brings to the field at game time because that's what really matters.
LC is as tough as they come, and, in spite of the image the media tries to make of him, is as good a leader as you can have... Anyone on a team with this terrible a record, who goes out there in significant pain every week and tried to make plays, is a hero in my eyes
coles is also very important in the passing game as not only a reciever but as a decoy, if u watched the games in which coles was injured, u will see that cotch did not do much, the safties played up and cb's played mostly man2man bump and run, lc's ability to stretch the defense, run excellent routs& get off the line of scrimmage is vital to the production of our passing game. Plain and simple- with lc in the game, there is more room in the secondary for everyone else
Coles is one of those players that Jets fans have nothing bad to say about, along with Cotchery, Mangold, Rhodes, and Leon. It's a small group.
with all due respect....coles is on the down hill of his career. lets not make any "wayne chrebet assumptions" about the guy. coles has been a good one but his years here are getting very short. we need a new WR.
True fans of the Jets respect what Coles brings every sunday to this team. With that said i think we do need to invest a pick into WR in the same way that the previous GM ignored our OL. Let's not wait until we absolutely need a WR before beginning to develop one. Sure we drafted Stuckey but it's the kind of position that you really need to swing at a couple of times before getting it right.
I'll take Coles over just about any other WR in the league. We just need a QB that can get him the ball.
That's crazy, man. When TO and Moss retire, they will be thought of as the #'s 2 and 3 best receivers of all time behind Rice....and both are in their late primes right now. Both can be considered posession receivers or deep threats at different times of games. Now comes the part where people name 8 other guys they'd take over Coles. ..and even if you like Coles over another guy, durability is a factor at this point of his career. He gets hurt twice a game, and while he may play through it, it certainly limits him.
So what do you want to do get rid of Coles? For what? Maybe a 3rd round pick? Maybe a 2nd if we're lucky?? Then maybe get a player that's half the talent as Coles? Coles is a top flight WR and would be even better with a QB that can get him the ball.
I would have traded him last off season after the concussion he suffered in Miami. His value has clearly dropped but if we could package him with a pick to get a potential elite talent I would do it in a heartbeat. Wrong side of 30, multiple concussions and he isn't going to be happy when Chad is unloaded. The Jets are 3 and 13 because we have allowed young talent at their peak to leave and allowed guys near the end who are very expensive to stay.
Always been a huge fan of Coles (FSU)....lets draft/trade for another WR and use Coles in the slot. Clemens and Coles need a training camp to get on the same page, Coles can stretch the field.
I couldn't agree with your second point more. If we could package Coles (I just saw the KC rumor thread) I wouldn't be opposed to it. But I don't think we should get rid of him for a single pick i.e. Also, in reference to his age - he is younger than both Moss and TO the two players mentioned above. I think you can still play WR in your 30's.
Who do you got before them.....Harrison? Right now you're probably right (if that's the guy), but he's hurt and who knows if he'll come back the same. Plus he's had Peyton Manning his whole career and Rice had Montana and Young. All three should pass Chris Carter in TD's. Based on talent alone, I would say Randy Moss is right there with Rice as the best to ever play the position. Look at his numbers, his QB's, and what he's doing now when he finally has a HOF QB. edit: better link http://www.pro-football-reference.com/misc/rct.htm
Coles takes such a beaten and keeps getting up. He is a great #2 reciever and a weak #1. I would love to get Berrian to play with Coles next year and put Cotchery in the slot.
