yeah, its good to make him happy...he is a very solid player...i would like to see us use him more and maybe even lock him up for a few more years if he continues the quality play
This move may have been made to free up cap space for next year. Maybe the Jets are planning a hard run at some pricey free agents this offseason.
he definitely is one of the better TEs in the league. If he had more speed, he would be one of the BEST TEs in the league.
He would be a lot better if he didn't have to block every down. I love baker, all he has to do is work on his speed a little. With a decent O-line and a good WR core he would be a very nice asset for us.
Exactly...He's got GREAT hands...If we had Perimeter players that could open up space, we could maximize his talent.
hes got great hands and hopefully this deal means we are going to splurge in FA on a guard that would help minimize the amount of downs that Baker would have to stay in as an extra blocker and allow him to open up some of the field for us. I was wondering if anyone knew a rough estimate of how many times Baker is called in for extra protection on either the left side or right side?
baker is such an asset to this team. i can't believe the jets won't use him more. it makes me sick sometimes. he has great hands and can move with the ball. why has it been 15 or more years since the jets used the TE in a bigger role?
Baker is a solid TE and I like him at the position; I just wish someone would teach hm to block a little better - that's all.
Looking at the depth chart who else is there? Ryan is a Good TE in the making but Backer is are go to guy! Its good to hear he's finally getting his worth.
So much for Woody being cheap. We had available cap space and this money comes right out of his pocket.
You might see a lot more of this this season. We'll re-do some contracts to use up the cap space they didn't use this year, and free up some more for next year so they have more money to play with next year
The offense is not good enough at this point for me to evaluate his impact...there are too many leaks that, to me, make it hard to tell if he is making a difference or not. he's a typical TE in my opinion...not a deep threat, just a big but rather slow receiver.
You've got to be joking. Baker consistently beats his guy, especially down close. Go back and watch the tape of the cleveland game. If Jones goes off right tackle, he scores.
I see him as a big guy with soft hands that is under used in our passing game. I would like to see what he can do with more involvement. As for blocking? I don't think he is great, but also not bad. A middle of the Road TE in that department. That would probly make him a better RT than Clement at this point though. hmy:
He is one of the best TE Michigan ever produced and he's still under-utilized. When he is thrown to its a completion + yds. His blocking isnt elite but its good enough to be content with. Get him the ball.
Baker can catch.. He has amazing hands, and he is average to good on the line. If they would get him more throws, he would shine fairly bright IMO. He is worth working around. All I need to do is watch last second catch in the endzone against Clevland, that is a keeper. Ya'll know what I am talking about.. Crazyness..
Nothing wrong with doing this it allows us to upgrade the position with no penalty in the future or stand pat. He is a solid mediocre NFL TE.
