I saved my espn draft guide from last April and just looked up newly-signed DE Kareem Brown who the jets claimed from NE. Brown is labeled as a DT who presents "a promising one-gap player who can beat OL and penetrate into the backfield." That's funny because the jets play a 3-4 defense where the DL are supposed to block so the linebackers make tackles. Does a house need to fall on Mangini? Now we add Brown to the list of players we have that are 4-3 players--Ellis, DRob, Vilma, Barton, etc. Another square peg in a round hole. Wise up and play the 4-3 next year. For whatever it is worth, I don't think Bryan (invisible) Thomas is a 4-3 OR a 3-4 player, although we owe him $25M for several years.

NE knows what players fit and what don?t, if they drafted him, he probably is able to play DE in a 34. His size is about ideal for that position. If he fits NE?s D, he fits ours.

and who cares, if he doesn?t pan out, he won?t be around next year, and we at least took him away from NE (they wanted to activate him from the PS, right?). it?s a win-win situation.

You're right. How could Mangini be so stupid?!! I'm gonna get on the horn right now and let woody know that we have found mangini's replacement, and his name is tomdeb.

Fire him now! Seymour was a one gap DT in college so he must not fit in the system either.

Damn Mangini was planning on making Brown the cornerstone of this line. Now his plan is all foiled.

Maybe the Jets are preserving the option of going back to a 4-3?

This 3-4 is never going to get where the Jets need it to be, not with the other needs they have to fill on the offensive side.

Switching back to a 4-3 and keeping D-Rob and Vilma puts the Jets a year closer to respectability.

We're better suited to playing 46 right at the moment than 3-4 or 4-3

Did Bryan Thomas kick your dog or something? 1/2 of all you posts slam Thomas and (erronously) mention $25mm that is owed.

Back to the topic. You do realize that the Jets claimed Brown off of waivers, right? They didn't draft him, they didn't sign him as a big money FA. He is a guy they will take a look at that was a 4th round pick for the Pats.

Many people talk about how Mangini/Tannenbaum need to "unearth" talent from low round draft picks, cast-offs, etc. (just like the Patriots). They take a flyer on a guy worthy of a 4th round pick by the "almighty" Pats who has been in the league 8 months and you equate it to Manigini not knowing what he was doing based on your in-dept analysis (i.e. reading a freakin' draft guide).

I prefer the 4-3. Oh well, wadda I know. With me coaching we'd only have two wins this season.

Sometimes I don't think people realize that virtually no teams play 3-4 in college and most linemen in college play the 4-3.

It's okay, though, the one DE who does play in a 3-4 and is projected to be a high first round pick apparently isn't a fit for the 3-4. I think I can cite a post on this message board about every DLineman who has ever been discussed to be a 3-4 DE or NT somehow does not fit the 3-4, unless he weighs over 330 pounds.

A lot of one-gap DTs in college fit the 3-4 in the NFL. New England drafted him, I wonder what for?

Actually, no. They wanted to release him from their active roster and sign him to their practice squad, though they only made it 50% of the way.

I didn't know you were so well connected! You have Woody's direct line? Let me know what he says. When I get the job I'll look YOU up if I ever need a janitor.

No, the Pats cut him and were going to put him on the PS if he cleared waivers.

Unless you have some bad-ass mo f'n corners, you cannot play a 46 in today's pass-happy NFL and get away with it....

It's all part of their plot to let him go so we'd pick him up even though he's not a fit for the 3-4.

This is the most retarded thread ever

He is a rookie, maybe the jets will get lucky and he will be a productive player. If he doesn't who cares there is no risk involved. If it his size, your criticizing remember that Chris Long is almost the same size. There is no guarantee he will be good either.
