I doubt Brick will ever be a pro-browl player. I think his play has been piss-poor this season. Mangold, Harris, and Revis all have potential.
I definitely agree, neutralizing Schobel x2, Jason Taylor, Umenora, Suggs, Cole with a giant black hole of suck playing right next to him is really "piss poor".
He hasn't neutralized anybody. I saw his man run right around him several times in the Dallas game. One was a hard sack for Clemens, and another was a tackle immediately after Jones took a hand off. #4 overall LT should be "set it and forget it." Is he a starting calibre LT, I guess, but is nowhere near pro-bowl calibre at this point.
Yeah I know his name only gets mentioned by guys like you in a game against Dallas, where the entire o-line blew, and the first NE game. Aside from that, his name is rarely mentioned. He has had 2 bad games (Dallas and NE) this year and one Mediocre (Pittsburgh) the rest as you say were "forgotten".
2 bad and 1 mediocre game out 11 means he's average or below 30% of the time. That's acceptable to you, that's pro-bowl calibre?
Again he has a black hole of suck next to him. In the NE game he actually was the best lineman by far. However saying he played the best when the line gave up 3 sacks and had the QB running for his life is dumb. As was the Dallas game. He was hardly the worst of the lot. You want to say he sucks go ahead and make an illinformed comment. No offensive line can be good with 2 superstars and 3 shit players. LT is not played in a vacuum. An offensive line is only as good as the weakest link. Brick has the weakest of weak links next to him. He has to account for overloaded right sides because the other team knows Clarke sucks. He has to account for the stud DE, he inevitably plays against, stunting to Clarke because he again sucks. That is just the half of it. How good has W. Jones been without Hutchinson. How many years did it take him to be all pro? Odgen? There are many many others to use as an example. Do you watch other O-lines? Do you pay attention to the LT? Do you pay attention to how they work as a unit? I am sorry to discount you opinion because as usual the D'Brick is a bust faction never ever take in account any of the above and that is just the half of the things they/you conveniently skip. Look at all the top notch LT's and tell me which one has a LG as bad as Clarke next to him. Take a look at the next tier of LT's and them tell me which one has a LG as bad as Clarke. The answer is absolutely none of them other than D'Brick. He has improved drastically this year. This is adding the fact that Clarke sucks. So while he is without a shadow of doubt not going to the Pro Bowl this year he has the talent and will get there eventually. Mark that down.................
The team is obviously behind my expectations as to where I thought we'd be this year, but that's not to say that it's irreversible. For one thing, we all knew there would be a learning curve for somebody as inexperienced as Mangini. I think our unexpectedly decent results last year led everyone, including Mangini and Tannenbaum, to think this was going to be easier than it has been. So to that end, ALL OF US had higher expectations for this year than was reasonably prudent. That was mistake number one... overconfidence. Enter September, with a Chad Pennington who we all thought was fully healled, fully rested, and yes, perhaps even stronger than the Chad we knew. He had a good camp... everything was in place. We now had a proven RB and an O-line that was gelled! Hell, we didn't even need Pete Kendall, that's how good we were! WRONG! Another mistake based on overconfidence and irrational exhuberance. Now the season gets well underway and Penny looks absolutely horrible. We decide to stick with him though, because, after all, we can't abandon the course and we need to stay "consistent." We stay with Penny about 2-3 games too long and te season is already spiralling. Add to those woes a defense that looks worse, not better, than it did the year prior. How did that happen? Certainly we could MAKE the 3-4 work... force a round peg in the square hole because, after all, it started looking like we could do that and get away with it last year! WRONG! Again, overconfidence to the point of arrogance by a young coach who had every right to expect things were on track based on last year's finish. We couldn't have been more out of touch, however. But none of us should think that this isn't painfully slapping reality into the face of one Mr. Eric Mangini, who realizes how foolish he's been with every handshake walking off the field. The final insult will be walking off the field at Foxboro after getting another drive-by handshake from Bill Belichick after we unmercifully get our asses kicked 49-10. This is one nasty learning experience for Mangini... and none of us should have expected that there wouldn't be tough times early on with him. But I'm still okay with Mangini and Tannenbaum. I think a lot of things they're learning will serve them well, sooner rather than later. I think the two of them are very fast learners, however painful all of this is right now, and I think the two of them are very capable of using what they've learned to turn things around... including the levels of overconfidence and irrational exhuberance.
I'm not sure where we are but certainly NOT where we should be. I would have liked to think this young, inexperienced FO/CS would have a shorter learning curve but nope, they'll take as long as they need to get it right. Especially with an Owner loathe to change. Has anyone asked: What exactly is a "Mangini Guy" considering Mangini has never been a NFL HC before and no championship/winning body of work to reference? He's no genius for sure. Neither is Tannebaum. Both are in OJT mode. That means, they will fck up more than succeed and in the high stakes world of NFL Team Management, any fckup will be very painful and time consuming. As usual, this franchise is in for yet another long grind of mediocracy sprinkled with a smidgeon of hope that the FO/CS might just luck up. Then again, the word "Luck" and the New York Jets have never been associated..
^ I bet that's where we're all wrong - A Mangini guy is probably a guy who bangs some git-er-dones wife in Jersey.
