I know there are a lot of people here that are really ready to kill D'brick after his performance against the Cowboys. A lot of people feel that he hasn't performed at an all-pro level. However, Jonathan Ogden and Walter Jones didn't make their first pro-bowl until their THIRD YEAR. Further who else could we have taken? In fact I think D'brick has played better this year than Marcus Mcneil who every analyst thought was going to be so much better than D'brick. I have watched Mcneil in a bunch of games and he has been quite poor in pass protection, he gave up 3.5 sacks in the first four games. So I think we all need to be patient with D'brick and this entire team for that matter. D'brick definitely has gotten bigger and his run and pass blocking look to be better. If year 3 he doesn't play at a pro-bowl level and if this team isn't back in the playoffs in year 3 then its time to hit the panic button. Thoughts?
He's going to be a good player, once he engages a lineman they can't get away from him. My concern is that once a game someone runs around him and at his size, speed and wingspan this shouldn't happen. He needs to become a better run blocker but it wouldn't hurt to have a real LG next to him.
My thoughts are that you better lay off that green koolaid that U have been drinking & put those green shades in a draw for several years cause at least IMHO U R in La-La land sorry to say. Can you say 2011 or later because if you cannot you best learn since that will be when the NYJs maybe competive again & that is if they hit a grand slam HR on each & every draft choice between now & then
D'Brick will either make it, D'Bust or somewhere in between. The pick was still the right pick in the context that it was made and you can't blame the Jets FO for making it.
Right, and that's fair. I was never enamored with the pick, but I can't go so far as to say it was the wrong choice.
Man aren't you the optimist, everyone thought that this team wouldn't make the playoffs last year and, boom, they went 10-6. For god's sake this ain't the 1996 Jets. You honestly think the Jets are going to be below .500 for the next 3 seasons? Yeah, its been a bad season, but teams go from a top 5 pick to playoff contention every year. Look at the Lions and Bucs.
Maybe DBrick hasnt lived up to his expectations but he has done a solid job so far and if we wouldnt have drafted him adrian jones would be our LT.
Now There is a scary thought..... D'brick will be fine give him time. As long as he is above average for us for his whole contract he was worth the #4 overall pick IMO. He didn't have to be great he had to be good to great and he has been that IMO.
D'Brick is going to be a solid, if unspectacular, LT for us for the next 10 years or so. Unless we are able to find something better without breaking the bank, or using a very high draft choice (we have more pressing need on the O-Line), I can live with that.
Left Tackle is the hardest position to play in football next to quarterback. He's been playing fine so far, and he'll only get better, if we could get a decent guard to put next to him he becomes a pro bowler.
Stop your bitching the guy is only in his second year and if we actually spend something called money and get em a decently good guard next to em then BAM!
i really dont have a problem with him, he is not a issue on pass blocking, sure he gets beat now and again but so do most in his position. he is definitely not a weak link at this point. and sure he may improve a bit but he is solid as far as i am concerned and not something that i am worried about. his run blocking does need to improve, but typically you have a great pass blocking tackle that isnt quite so good in run blocking. so you cant ask for miracles, improvement is all that is asked in the run blocking department.
Yep that is exactly the way I see it or otherwise I would not have posted it. That is based on us hitting grand slam HRs with EVERY draft pick between now & then or you will then have to go beyond what I posted
He wasn't even that bad against the Cowboys relative to the rest of the O-line. More than any other position on the field, O-line performance depends on the performance of the other linemen. Brick did get beat a couple times, but he wasn't horrible.
No Ollie I am only giving the group my assessment after doing my analysis of our players. Your post as well as others is really quite silly since I have invested 42 years into the NYJs as well as paying them countless thousands of dollars to pay for my season tix since 65 with only the 68 season & SB3 as my reward. I would truly like to say that we have top notch quality players but sorry to say the we do not & in fact for the most part we have 3rd tier or lower players. I am not the one to blame for that if you are angry you should take it up with Man & Tan & Woody who are responsible for the garbage U see out the field playing for us
Did you really do an analysis of our players to come to the conclusion that it will be 2011 before we can compete? If so how did you come to the conclusion that 2011 was that magical year we should be pinning our hopes to? Did you save this analysis that you can share with us?
