Unfortunately, the draft is the best thing we JETS fans have on the horizon. I would like to discuss what makes a good draft. Of course, this differs by where the team currently is. So we can speak in general terms, but we can also focus on where this team is, and what we hope to get in the upcoming draft. Personally, I think the past two drafts have been good overall. We can debate whether or not trading up last year was the smart move. i think revis and harris are worth where they went, but i am less sure if trading up was the correct move. im not an expert on the draft, so ill throw out an example of what i am generally talking about I think a draft is succesful if you can get 1 above average starter, 2 average starters and some 2 more guys that can get on the field Id like to hear what everyone else has to say
I loved last years draft simply because it was knwon to be a very weak class so we made the move to get two studs and boy did we get two studs?! They are ALWAYS making tackles...those two guys could be huge in the turnaround for the defense in years to come. These are the Jets building blocks on defense. In this years draft we HAVE to find someone to bring the pressure! We don't have a single speed rusher on our defense. We need to find a 3-4 OLB to write home about. Vernon Gholston, if he declares for the draft, would be a PERFECT fill for a big weakness for the Jets. Getting the QB CONSISTENTLY. I am hoping the Jets win a couple more so that they pick around 8-12. That would be a good spot to get him.
What makes a good draft is filling your teams needs with good hard working players who can build themselves into playmakers with enough expirence. Last year despite only really having 2 picks we used em on 2 really good players so i look foward to getting a big time pass-rusher (maybe a OLB like Gholston) a hard hitting safety a big true Nose-Tackle and a speedy wide-reciever and if we can fill those spots with good young players well be much better heading into 08 but players take time to develop in the NFL so we cant sleep in Free-Agency , Go out and get a Offensive Tackle to complement D'Brick & Mangold another solid corner to play along side Revis and adding another LB preferably one that fits the 3-4 Scheme. Woody - SPEND DAT CASH MONEY!!!
A good draft is getting guys who start. The Jets did that last off-season and I give them credit for it.
