Isiah Thomas? Not to sound like a racist but how many NBA teams have more then 2 or 3 white guys playing a role? What white player did he pass on that was great, Jason Kapono?
Or maybe it's the fact that Lo Duca is loud mouth malcontent while not being a very good player either. The Mets can likely get the platoon of Castro/Torrealba for the same price as it would take to sign Lo Duca. Torrealba is also a better defensive player to Lo Duca. And presumably he won't whine and cry like Lo Duca every time he's not in the starting lineup.
Lo Duca is a 300 Hitter on the road, where most teams struggle....It kind of makes sense to keep a bat in the lineup that helps pick the team up in difficult circumstances....
Yeah but he only threw out like 18 of 79 runners, he was a huge eason for sparking that late Philly run when They stole like 4 bases in the bottom of the 9th. Granted Wagner gets some blame too along with Willie for misuse of Redneck but how can a catcher allow 4 stolen bases in 1 inning? It turned out that 1/2 inning was a very important 1/2 inning because if they win that game they make the playoffs.
His splits were almost identical home/away in 06. Strongly favored the road in 05 and strongly favored home in 04. With the kind of hitter Lo Duca is it really comes down to are the singles dropping in or not. He's 35 and has had injury problems the last 2 seasons, there's really no reason to think he's going to improve much on what he did last year.
Home/road splits often fluctuate from year-to-year. They can be helpful stats, but making definitive statements about a player's ability to hit based upon them is often asking for trouble (see Soriano with Texas). Speaking of fluctuating home/road splits Torrealba in 2007: home .296/.353/.424 away .212/.292/.326 Torrealba in 2006: home .222/.282/.402 away .274/.306/.481
Haha, Yorvit realized what he was getting into. Can't come to the Mets and win a championship. Better chance in Colorado.
I thought it was a done deal. Weird how they haven't given out an explanation yet as to why he didn't sign.
I think either a) he failed his physical Saturday or b) he was trying to hold the Mets up for more money.
Maybe they realized it wasn't a good move. Weak arm, his stats are much better at Coors field then anywhere else.
