Where do you get 3.23 from? against Cle Boston gave up an average of 4.57. 4.57 is more than 4, right?
Hey junc, I know you love to obsess about Arod's post season stats but here is what you should be thinking about. The fact that Arod wants to and will set the all time HR record (the most important record in sports) as a Yankee and in the new Yankee stadium is far more important and more meaningful in the history of baseball and the Yankees then it would be if he never got another hit in the playoffs for the rest of his career.
don Im pretty much on "your side" with this whole A-rod thing..BUT......you can stick that HR record right up your ass......if you tell me right now that A-rod will never get another hit in the playoffs but he'll get the HR record, then I would be begging he go to another team....
I can see why you feel that way now when he still has 10 years left in his career but 50 years from now your kids or your kids kids will be talking about Arod as the all time HR hitter and they will care less what his BA was in the playoffs. That is what I am saying. The importance of owning that record is far bigger in the overall realm of things. A perfect example would be this. Do people talk about the fact that Babe Ruth had the all time SO record or the all time HR record. Oh, and the Babe had WS at the height of his career where he hit .200 and .118 but do you ever hear about it? He also had some great ones too but then so has Arod just not in the last 3 years.
I'm on your side in the Arod debate but in 50 years I'll care more about championships than a HR record....
I have to sort of agree with jonny and ollie. I want ARod to break Barroid's record, but I want him to go down as the new Mr. October a lot more. ARod is a first-ballot HoFer, and will solidify himself as the greatest player ever if he breaks the HR record. Without the rings though, he'll simply be spoken of in the same terms as a Marino. Amazing talent, but couldn't get it done when it counted. That said, I believe he will do both, as a Yankee. One of which will come in 2008.
I do too, and if the Yankees don't win any WS in the next 10 years it won't be because of what Arod's BA in those series was just as it isn't now. Ruth won 4 and lost 3 with the Yankees and without looking it up I'll bet nobody knew that off the top of their heads. In fact I would think most thought, as I did, that he won more.
screw my kids and their kids...I want as many rings as I can get before I have my massive heart attack and they find my urine soaked body slumped n my chair....and if we're gonna have arod for 10 more years, Im thinkin he needs some october hits for me to get championships
 Leave it to jonny to always put a great spin on everything, usually including at least one reference to urine, feces, or his own impending meeting with the Grim Reaper. Now while I won't go so far as to say I don't care about my kids seeing championship teams, I do agree that I want to see a few in the near future myself. And yes, ARod has to hit in October for that to happen. At the same time, so do at least 8 other men. And another handful need to pitch like they're actually getting paid for it.
aord was the youngest to reach 200, 300, 400, 500 homeruns in his career, when he becomes homerun king, we would already have won 3 more championships, and win another with him being a DH. all of this can happen if we get johan santana, and have chien ming-wang, joba chamberlain, in the rotation.
I want my kids to see championship teams but I dont care if they talk about arod being the homerun champ is what I was sayin...although I got two chicks for kids...the baby is too young for me to tell but my 4 year old loves ballet and all that girly shit so I dont think shes gonna care about jankee beisbol
Damn 50 post count rule. I'd love for the number to be like 1000 posts to be able to start a thread, but then we'd have to see shit like this clog up every forum for like 6 straight hours. And these people never have anything interesting to say when they finally get the chance to create a thread.
This gives a great explanation of why Goldman was involved with getting Arod and the Yankees together. Maybe why the Yankees don't really seem to care about the money too. http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUKN1645846020071120?rpc=44
Don - hate to spoil your party, but Arod will be lucky to hold the record for 10 years. Ball players continue to get bigger and stronger and ballparks smaller. Within 10-15 years, there will be a 175 game regular season schedule and players will be playing until they are 45-50 years old with advances in medicine, technology, etc. Prince Fielder, who hit 50 last year at age 23, or some other hot shot will eventually be the new home run king.
Baseball will never have a 200 game schedule. The only reason the season isn't being contracted is because the owners of smaller clubs fight to keep those ticket sales. Sure, players will play longer, but in order to break this record, it takes a huge number of variables to fall perfectly into place. When ARod sets the mark, it will stand at least 20 years, possibly more. And he'll probably be a Yankee.
