It's obvious from yesterday's game that we don't have the deep threat to go along with Cotchery. Our receivers were well covered the entire game and didn't have much seperation from the corners except for the coles play. It looks like we will need to find a receiver with some speed in the off season. Most teams have a WR who can scare the defense, I don't know if the same can be said with the jets. Coles seems to be breaking down more and more and his injuries have impacted his playing time.

WR position will have to be addressed in the draft....or via FA. Give some time for the ones we have now to get use to KC...Smith will get it right

oK.. But maybe we need to see if B. Smith can really eb a receive in this league. Coles probably won't play against Dallas so we will have to put JMac out there and B. Smith as the third receiver. They need to avio using him on the running plays because I belive it is hindering his development at WR.

Smith has shown thus far that he can be depended upon as anything an option other than #4 or greater.

Forget getting open - these jokers can't catch the damn ball when they are open.

Pittsburgh has the number 1 defense in the league, 1 in rush D and 1 in Pass D, plus we were missing out NUMBER 1 Reciever. If anything we can use a big guy, say like Marcus Monk 6'5 out of Arkansas.

    My take:

Without Coles in there, J-Co very much looked like a #2 receiver, like when Alvin Harper tried to play without Michael Irvin. Brad Smith looked like a guy that just started playing receiver last year. J-slack, well...'nuff said, although I will give him credit for actually moving towards a ball thrown his way...and then he actually caught it...a #3 at best, and hopefully not on our team. He and Ashlie Lelie must compare notes in the offseason. Oh how we missed LC...him hobbling off was very scary stuff.

Chansi Stuckey and the draft will fix this problem. People don't want to hear it but it is better to get rid of coles a year to early as opposed to a year to late while we can get value from him. He is a great player on the down side of his career at this point.

Recieving cores show up and sometimes they disappear. The cowboys were wondering about their receiving core and then they showed up. The Bengals were also wondering ; leading to rumors of chad Johnson being trade bait or an off season acquisition for a team.

Cotchery's issue is similar to what Keyshawn's issue later in his career was. No matter how good your are, toughness and the ability to make tough catches does not make it easier to get open... There needs to be someone with speed and quickness enough to draw the attention of the defense and give that 2nd guy the opportunity to get open.

Cotchery is an excellent WR, but he just does not have the speed to beat a double team on his own..... When Coles is in there, D's can't concentrate on him so hard, but when they can, he's invisible...

    Firstly I love that. [IMG]

What about LCs 56 yarder? Thats pretty deep isn't it? The problem with burners is they drop as many as they catch.
I hope I'm wrong here because from what I've seen of Stuckey he looks NFL. But fear he will be a perennial sick note.

We definitely need to look at drafting a WR early at some point. I've been saying it for the last 2 drafts. Coles is getting old & WRs usually take a couple of years to develop. We need a stud WR to groom with Cotchery & Clemens.

Maybe, if he can stay healthy. He could be a good addition to the receiving corps.

(As in US Army Corps of Engineers)

Calvin Johnson would make a huge difference in our team. They guy has a very bad back from an early season injury and he still made a play on a pass that gave the Lions an opportunity to stay in that game.

I wasn't calling for the addition of a fast, physical, deep-threat WR as long as Chad was tossing the ball (what would be the point?), but now I am.

Clemens is the real deal. His performance yesterday all but sealed his starting role for this team, while fixing Chad's future role here as nothing but a servicable backup for us (albeit a possible starter for another team somewhere... God Bless them if they want to trade something valuable for him).

So yeah, we need to be looking for a protypical WR, one that will compliment Cotchery's rugged go-to role and Stuckey's smaller, faster threat. I'd have no problem fielding Smith, Stuckey, Cotchery and some bigger, faster physical some-bitch in the physical mold of Keyshawn Johnson/Terrell Owens/Plaxico Burress. That ought to keep Clemens happy.
