Obviously this was tempered a bit by the win but I've rarely been so enraged by a sequence of Jets plays. First, the idiotic decision to spike the ball and waste a down from the 5 with 40 seconds on the clock and a timeout left. This is one of the dumbest plays I've ever seen watching football. Did Clemens decide to do this on his own or did the call come from the sideline? Also the half assed fades on 2nd and 3rd down didn't help matters either.
It wasn't a good sequence. I don't know why we burned 2 time outs earlier in the quarter for no apparent reason.
The spike was just moronic. He's running up to the line making the downward throwing motion and I'm just wondering if anyone on the field -- or the sidelines -- is aware of the situation. 1st and goal on the 5 with 40 seconds left. You don't even need to call a time out much less waste a down with a spike.
I’m not bitching because after the last six weeks this felt good and I’d rather enjoy this before we become the Cowgirls thanksgiving feast…but a few weeks ago I said that the emergence of KC will show that our receivers blow and from what I’ve seen I’m on target. Saw about as many balls smack off of Jets receivers hands as bounce off of a French whores ass in the last two weeks.
One of the time outs was to stop the clock on defense. But you're right about the other one I think that actually came after a change of posession. I don't know if they had too many men on the field or anything but it was odd.
Very true...without Coles in there, J-Co very much looked like a #2 receiver, like when Alvin Harper tried to play without Michael Irvin. Brad Smith looked like a guy that just started playing receiver last year. J-slack, well...'nuff said, although I will give him credit for actually moving towards a ball thrown his way...and then he actually caught it...a #3 at best, and hopefully not on our team. He and Ashlie Lelie must compare notes in the offseason. Oh how we missed LC...him hobbling off was very scary stuff.
The sequence was definitely questionable, but I think for slightly different reasons. I agree the spike was just moronic. However, I didn't mind the next two plays as much. The first pass to Smith was more of an out than a fade. The second play was a fade which, while I want the Jets to go for the win, was a good (read: safe) play to call for a young QB. What I really didn't like about the sequence was the choice of WR. Obviously based on playing with the 2nd team, Clemmens like throwing to Smith. You saw it in the WAS game and you saw it again today. The problem is that Smith is not that great a WR. If you are going to throw a fade, why not go to the bigger Cotchery. Or call Bakers number. I am sure the Steelers were locked in on them, but a fade is a jump ball, it's thrown at the snap regardless of coverage.
No one is suggesting the Jets used the timeout there, rather, just call a play at the line instead of wasting a down. The Jets spiked the ball on 1st down with 0:37 on the clock. If Clemmens takes the time to call a play, it probably takes another 10 seconds and the play ends at about 0:20. (A fade maybe...) The Jets next three plays (2 passes and the FG) took 11 seconds and they didn't even use the timeout. And, the Steelers had 16 seconds (and 2 timeouts) to work after the FG.
They didn't need to spike it or call a timeout... just line up and run another play. They had plenty of time.
We beat the Steelers with a QB on his 3rd start in the NFL. This deffinately the highest point of the season thus far. Save the complaints for when we get killed by the Cowboys this week. Enjoy the win, it was a great one.
yeah, the pass to Smith looked more like an out which, by the way, should have been caught and game over in regulation.
The Jets still need a serviceable #3. J-Mac and Brad Smith suck. Maybe Stuckey can be that guy next year.
THEN we spike it. We didn't need to spike it OR use a TO. We had plenty of time to call a play at the line, it cost us a play and could have cost us the game. It was an asinine decision that luckily didn't cost us the game.
The spike was called from the sideline. On TV you could see Kellen looking at the side lines and getting the spike signal. I do not like BS redzone offense.
We beat the steellers because our last in the league run defense stepped up and stopped the run. This game was more about a great day for the defense than the offense. Not to discount the running game because it was good too. Question, I know the steelers have not had a back run for 100 yards against them in 35 games until Sunday. How many games has it been since the Jets have held a back to less than 100 yards?
You guys who are anti-fade pass are really just poor fans. This is the first time, all year, that we have shown the fade pass, and all of you are acting is if this is something you see at least once, every time we are in the red zone. Pathetic!
That will change...as CLemens is in more, they will have 2 or 3 plays, that he likes to run, and will be able to get up quick, and snap it off.
