If we go 1-15 than yea we might need some big coaching changes, but I don't think we will. We've had a chance to win every game except the Patriots game, eventually you gotta think we'll get some breaks and come up with some wins. I think we are a really bad team, but not historically bad.
I think U R 4getting our exchanges in the last off season when I warned that it would be at the least 2010 or beyond before we had capable players to make a SB run. Also remember that estimate is based on EVERY draft choice we selected being a grand slam HR. Anything less will drop us in the beyond 2010 time frame
It proves that Coleman leads all defensive linemen in tackles. It has nothing to do with what the record of the team is. He was just pointing out that Coleman is leading the NFL's defensive linemen in tackles.
The stat proves nothing. The original poster i quoted pointed at revis and harris and there # of tackles as the only indicator of how well they were doing giving them praise, then shit on coleman saying he was doing nothing. The purpose of me posting that stat was only to show that in terms of tackles, Coleman is doing quite well.
It is looking that way (2010). Players come and go , but a coach should be given a reasonable amount of time to form his team. What is debatable is what constitutes a reasonable amount of time though. If we can see progress every season , in game plans and player developement , then the regime is working. Right at this moment in time , its not, and far from it.
You were right and I was wrong. I said we should be fine by 2009 but it looks like this mess will take until at least 2010 or beyond.
Well, yeah, it's obvious that the meat of the Jet's schedule was before midseason last year when they went 4-4 and after midseason this year. The difference is the Jets were able to handle their weak second half schedule last year and do something with it. This year the weak part of the schedule was early on and the Jets just rolled over and died in the second half of games over and over again. And I'll repeat, being DC for New England's worst defensive season of the dynasty was definitely not a qualifier for getting the Jet's head coaching position. We all were very surprised by the selection when it happened, and looked at it as a cool, revelatory thing that Tannenbaum had given us. Imagine that! A 35 year old head coach straight from the Patriots, what a bargain... You earn head coaching jobs in the NFL. Instead we gave Mangini one for essentially doing nothing but knowing the right people.
Why would you make an estimate with an impossible-to-meet condition involved? What team has ever had a grand slam home run with every draft choice? Ever?
1974 - Pittsburgh Steelers 1 21 Lynn Swann WR USC 2 46 Jack Lambert LB Kent State 4 82 John Stallworth WR Alabama A&M 4 100 Jimmy Allen DB UCLA 5 125 Mike Webster C Wisconsin Four hall of famers and a guy who played in the NFL for seven seasons in the first five picks. That's as good as it gets I think.
The fact of the matter is unless you were a part of the process of hiring Mangini or know someone who was, you have no way of knowing what his qualifications were. Is being DC for one season enough? Probably not, but he had 10 years of experience in the parcells/belli tree doing different jobs. Yeah part of that was being an intern but he worked his way up the ladder and eventually knew/showed enough that BB trusted him enough to run his defense.
Eric Mangini was the least qualified person ever to be offered a head coaching job in the NFL. Mike Tomlin at least DC'd a top 8 defense and was a DB coach on two top-rated defenses in Tampa in 2002 and 2005. His defensive backs intercepted 5 passes in Super Bowl XXXVII propelling the Bucs to their only Super Bowl win.
Yes. Herm had 9 years in the NFL as a player, followed by 2 years as a defensive assistant at San Jose State University, followed by 6 years of experience as a defensive backs coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, followed by 5 years of experience as a defensive backs/assistant head coach under Tony Dungy at Tampa Bay. That was 20 years of NFL experience including 11 years of coaching on the defensive side of the ball. Was he well-qualified to be a head coach given that he had no coordinator experience at all? I'll leave that argument for others, but he clearly was more qualified than Eric Mangini to head coach in the NFL at the time he was hired by the Jets.
I love people who use assumption as their main form of reasoning. I didn't love Herm but I didn't think he needed to go either. I wanted Bradway gone and really did not care if Herm stayed or not. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=139893&postcount=28 I went back and forth a bit but I did not feel Herm was the reason the Jets collapsed, my handle tells you all you need to know about that.
we arent that far off. we were an old playoff caliber but not SB caliber team pre mangini we need to rebuild. we are starting a 2nd year QB. as long as he makes progress, we have to stick with the program.
