in 07 management will have to decide who to keep on the roster , or let go and chalk up as money wasted. 07 hicks, poteat, barnes, kassel, e.coleman, hobson, a.jones, s.ryan, 08 barton, chatam, spencer, vilma, clarke, mosley, nugent, pouha, rhodes, miller 09 clement, barrett, bowens, coles, dearth, baker, d-rob, clemens, d.coleman, b smith, e smith, leon then look at our pay per individual versus production barrett 3.6 mil till 09 coles 3mil 09 ellis 4.5 mil 2010 t. jones 900 thou 2010 j mac 2.9 mil 2010 penny 2 mil 2011 d-rob 4.9 mil 09 b.thomas 1.5 mil 2011 dyson 850 thou 2010 clement 770 thou 2009 chatam 720 thou 08 bowens 750 thou 09 look at the money mismanagement here. either we are going to give people like coles ellis d-rob t.jones barrett j.mac, big money to stay again or lose our team within the next couple years. our 06&07 mangini drafts wont be so wonderful by 09, especially considering the obvious turnover.there is a cliff ahead and hopefully mangini will be pushed off as well. (tanny with him) but the importance here is we are going to lose starters and or depth. our current regime is not building... all you have to do is look at it.
i belive barett and JMac reworked their contracts. i don?t see any problems, we?re about 10M under the cap right now and Chad will be gone in the offseason. y are you starting this one in the middle of the season? is there any reason for this?
i'm mearly trying to show that our current regime has no idea. look at the mistakes already made in FA. our drafting the last two years HAS NOT put us on a five year "plan." why is our roster littered with second tier overpaid talent? our roster is complete junk.(money....production balance)
what good does it do to resign players that have already exibited that they dont fit on this team? lets drop penningtons contract further in 2011, he would still be considered overpaid for an nfl backup, if we kept him. if d-rob doesnt fit why pay him 4.9 mil this year? chuck his butt, and find three on the cheap to platoon... maybe one of them could fill a need later. i could pick on each player, whats the point?
do you believe the office picked up t.jones in rebuild mode? bowens? why is a 4th string wr on our team the 2nd highest paid wr? etc...etc...
i do realize alot of the problem didnt originate with mangina..... but he isnt doing anything to help bigger problems. so yeah i blame him and the fo. they currently have control .....so why not try to fix it? because they thought it wasnt as bad as it really is...........which defines the word mismanagement!!!
do you think any FA would sign, if we simply cut down contracts at random? and we would have about 10 holdouts every year. and as i said earlier, they reworked JMacs and baretts contracts lately (your numbers aren?t even right), so they exatly do what you demand. and contracts aren?t mangini?s buisness so what?s all this about?
You don't understand how the cap works. How the pro rated signing bonus work. How you can cut a player at any time if you want. The front office is turning over the roster and they have resisted giving out any big contracts while they add cheap free agents and draft picks. Players with awful contracts like J-mac, Barrett, Robertson, Pennington and Ellis will either be restructred, cut or traded. Right now we are in as good a shape with the salary cap as we have been in years.
i didnt say cut at random... to make room or replace the individual completely. i also know my numbers are not precise ( i got them from the "gang green" ....."the team".... i was just using examples. if mangini is so hell bent on retooling our roster to fit his design, i say get on with it. he actually thought his job was somewhat complete after year one no doubt. contracts are not mangini's thing, but im sure he has input on personel, especially when changing offensive and defensive philosophies..
we are 1-8 for gods sake. were are the roster improvements? why pay them an extra year or two if they are not in the future plan? i guess mangini optimism has you by the nuts? our cap room is fine and when we cut these people or ask them to restructure, do you honestly think they will to stay on this god forsaken team? whoo hoo we have space, but i bet you an "i told you so" our roster doesnt change much in the next offseason. all this money with nothing to buy. mangini wont be around long enough to build his dream team, as we can look forward to more losing with this very, very, slow attempt at rebuilding. if you call it rebuilding....... which you cant with last seasons offseason moves.
To answer your question; no, cap hell is not looming. Of all the things that are wrong with this team we are in good shape cap wise. I'm certain some of those cap numbers are out of date, and you didn't even mention what the cap is in the coming years so how could you assume us being in cap hell without that information? w/o the total cap room information + knowing about the effects of multiple things like signing bonuses, roster bonuses, performance based bonuses have on our cap in the later years we can't get a truly clear picture on our cap situation. What I do know is we have more $$$ under the cap then most teams, we don't exactly have a bunch of superstars we have to resign at the end of the year, and we don't have any marquee players becoming FA's after this season so as long as we sign the right guys to extensions before they hit the free market I don't see any cap problems in the future. A better question is: Is Tbruner really a jet fan? Your pretty negative for a guy who is supposed to be behind the nyj.
why question my fanhood? the only way we can compete in the next two or three years is heavy spending in free agency, or top five draft picks in the next draft or two. do you see mangini staying for two consecutive 2-3 win seasons?
y should we get rid of them when we don?t have to? what do you want? 50M of cap space and a bunch of untalented nonames going into next season? and at least blame Tannenbaum and Woody.
