Now what do the jets do with Thomas and his ridiculous $25M extension they foolishly gave him last year? Does he even have a sack this year? I waited 4 years for his original deal to expire and couldn't believe the jets stupidly listened to his agent. Do we just keep watching him do his invisible imitation 5 more years? Would anyone take him and his contract off our hands if we threw in a draft pick or two? What's next... a five year extension for Dwayne "Rob the jets."?
No that's BS. David Harris is playing well. Darelle Revis is playing well. Kerry Rhodes has made some plays. Don't throw our babies out with the bath water. Thomas, however, is total garbage. Re-signing him after 9 games last year was the worst mistake the current administration has made to date. He put up AVERAGE numbers last year because it was a contract year. It wasn't a breakout year- it was a "Oh shit, I'm gonna be out of the NFL next season" year. I hope Tangini is man (are men?) enough to recognize their mistake and ship this douchebag off as soon as the off-season hits. For those keeping track, 1.5 sacks. A half sack more than our rookie LB. One and a half sacks more than a fucking mannequin.
I'll go along with this one. I'm not happy with the Jets FO a lot of the time but I thought the Thomas extension was at worst a necessary evil and at best a smart move. Moving him to LOLB on the other hand was pretty braindead.
There were plenty of times where he rushed from the strong side. He had multiple sacks from that side.
The good news is that they signed him before the cap exploded in the offseason. 5 mil a year isn't as big a deal as it was two or three years ago; if hes seriously underperforming after another year or two, I don't think his contract would keep him on the roster.
He's getting tackles, downfield... I wouldn't say he's playing well or playing poorly. Tackles <> playing well Revis is a pass interference machine. No, he's NOT playing well in my eyes. He's done OK... not great, not bad.
And Kimo rushed from four or five yards off the LoS several times. Doesn't mean that's where he played.
He was on the depth chart as the ROLB. Did he move around a bit, sure. But he was playing ROLB and Hobson was playing LOLB. This year the two were reversed and the right side of the Jets run D has been close to non-existent.
1. Thomas isn't, and never has been, an elite pass rusher. His contract is somewhat reasonable, and he'd produce better if he had someone else on the other side. Best example would be Vrabel-Colvin or Merriman/Phillips. You can't have ONE guy who can rush the passer in a 3-4. Part of the gimmick of the system is that the defense is unaware of where the rush is coming from. 2.David Bowens is underused. I have no idea why. I've seen him on the field in one game this year. You'd think that a team that couldn't get a pass rush would give snaps to a guy who has been a pretty decent one throughout his career. I don't get it. 3.Revis hasn't been terribly impressive. Everyone loves the guy, I've seen mixed things. That said, I'm not going to judge a corner who operates with zero pass rush in his first season. If he struggles next year it's a cause for concern.
