Kansas City Chiefs' Larry Johnson Out for Season Last Edited: Tuesday, 06 Nov 2007, 4:04 PM MST Created: Tuesday, 06 Nov 2007, 2:19 PM MST By JOSINA ANDERSON, Denver Sports Insider KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is out for the season with a broken right foot. This was confirmed by a source within the Chiefs organization with direct knowledge of the situation. According to the Chiefs initially, Johnson had suffered a mid-foot sprain in the fourth quarter of last Sunday's 33-22 loss to the Packers. So far this season, Johnson has rushed 158 times for 559 yards. That total has Johnson ranked 14th in the league-just behind Travis Henry who’s 13th with 580 yards. While this injury is bad news for Johnson, it’s a bright spot for the Denver Broncos who’s last ranked rush defense who won’t have to face him this coming weekend.
He becomes the starter but they don't think he can carry the pill more then 15 times a game and KC is horrible. They were averaging 73 yards a game rushing when Johnson was healthy. Sounds like the Jets.
Eh, I rolled the dice on PH in a couple fantasy leagues today. What the hell, he may revert back to pro-bowl form, in which case I hit gold. He was added in over 60,000 leagues today.
And once again the year after a RB carries the ball more than 350 times he goes down with a serious injury. Willie Parker and Marshawn Lynch better watch out for themselves.
The historical significance of running a running back into the ground. Look at the track record of backs that had 350+ rushes in a season. Chances are greater than 50% or more that in the following season or the next that RB will get a catastrophic injury. So in summation.............. although he probably did not predict a foot injury, it was not difficult to predict a major injury was headed his way. This is the reason teams are stressing RB tandems.
yes, I had a long argument with Cakes over this. It would still be going had I not chosen to walk away. football outsiders used the 370 threshold, and it works. Cakes's argument was that there are guys who have gotten near 370 but didn't see their performance fall off the next season. Larry Johnson had 429 carries including the playoffs last year, plus another 26 in the preseason and Pro Bowl. A decline in performance and/or injury was obvious. I insisted it would happen and it did, although we'll see whether he's really out for the season or not.
Well I do not know why he would argue that fact as the evidence is overwhelming on that front. The only back to run for 370 plus and not get injured or decline seriously that I am aware of is Eric Dickerson. He had 3 years of 370 plus. However he had 404 carries in 1986 and proceeded to miss 24 games in the following 2 seasons. So yeah that measure is a surefire indicator of future events and it is not even close. If I was a coach I would never ever let a back of mine even get a sniff of 350 carrries.
It's very obvious. This is why I respect what our organization did regarding Kendall. The Chiefs gave Johnson a heavy reward contract. Although it was clear that they weren't going to be a major contender this year, they also gave Tony Gonzalez major guaranteed money. The likelihood of Johnson ever producing in line with that contract are not very good. This is a really poorly run franchise. -X-
I would argue the fact because the evidence IS NOT overwhelming on that front. Eric Dickerson IS NOT the only guy. Trust me. Later tonight or tomorrow I'll post the goods.
