THe Onside Kick in the second quarter completely changed the game. After driving down the field and scoring a FG to make the score 17-6, they kicked an onside kick to change the score to 17-9 at half time. So you're thinking, big deal 6 points... Essentially the Skins Offense (and thus the Jets defense) was on the field for 3 or 4 straight possession since Washington also got the ball first in the second half. Our already terrible defense didn't have a chance to get off the field, and we couldn't get our offense which was clicking and leading 17-3 back on the field and back in the rhythm. Just thought that was a game changing play showing how a coaching decision can completely change the game... but Elam should've had it. Also on Elam... I'm getting tired of him, I know he plays hard etc but I've seen enough boneheaded plays to be sick of him. Agree?
i liked eric smith over elam, but i dont have the game tape and it is a bitch to try and figure out the secondary even with the game DVRed
The whole time is tough to figure out... I realized the other day that we don't have a fullback and we never run a fullback set. So alarming to me. No wonder we can't run the ball. The best is when we split TJ or Leon wide, and then bring them in motion to the back field, 7 yards deep, and RUN EVERYTIME OUT OF THE FORMATION. If I can notice a trend I'm pretty sure every DC out there can too.
The play that changed the game? The onsides kick? Not even freaking close. The play that changed the game was that freaking stupid holding penalty. That was the play that changed the game. If Brick was not penalized, the Jets have the ball at the Redskins 4. Clemens then has an opportunity to show everyone, what a real NFL QB can do. However, that stupid ass holding penalty brought the ball back to the Redskin 30 and gave Cotchery his first chance to fuck the game up for Clemens and the Jets. That snowballed a chain of events which led the Jets to fuck up yet another 4th quarter lead. Without that penalty the Jets put this game away and finally do not choke. However that is what bad teams do, snatch a loss from the Jaws of victory. My great fear for Clemens now is this is 2 games where he has led a comeback drive to either tie the game or outright win. Both times the WR's screwed the pooch. WTF does this guy have to do to get his team mates to make a fucking play for him. Jesus what is with all this choking by his team mates. This worries me, as I do not like that trend at all. Yes I am pissed at that penalty and right now, Brick can go F himself as can Cotchery,Smith etc. etc. It is amazing how one asinine play can snowball and kill this team. His mistake allowed all the other choking dogs a chance to screw the game up as well. Edit: I love how Brick has been playing/improving this year. But man I am getting pissed at all my ruined Sundays.
Next time he sees an open guy in big spot, he's going to drill him in the facemask, and make the guy catch the ball, rather than get his head taken off....
Totally agree on Elam... He was a LITTLE better Sunday, but, overall, he's been terrible.. For people who just follow the ball, they see him as a good addition, because they see him come in at the end of play and lay the wood, but I've made it a point to follow him on a number of defensive plays... He overruns almost EVERY outside run... I'm terrified one of these times a RB is going to make a cut, and the SAFETY is not going to be there to prevent the big run.... And, most disturbingly, for a guy who's so aggressive, he has TERRIBLE ball instincts.... Watching him in coverage, he seems like he doesn't even realize a pass is coming over the middle until the ball is in the WR's hands... He never jumps a route, and usually sits, and allows the WR to catch it and secure it before even coming up on him... He's terrible
That onside kick was the Redskins call of the game. I was watching this game with a buddy of mine, die-hard Skins fan, who loved the call. 3 points in a game won by 3 points. I remember the Jets dialing up a play or two last year. Before the neutering...
^ last year vs Indy we did it and it worked. Last year vs Chicago we did it and got screwed and haven't done it since.
The offense needs to score more than 3 pts in the second half to win the game. Newby elam shouldnt have been on the field for that ko. He's got shit for brains. Is everyone else in mangina's large doghouse that they have to play elam on both sts and defense?
Clemens was ok, above average even, on Su nday, but let's not say he's the 2nd coming We scored 13 offensive points. Granted, we had 2 fewer offensive possessions because of the KO return for a TD and the onside kick, but 13 is not going to cut it.
That really wasn't totally on Clemens though. As already stated, he got screwed by a lot of drops. He wasn't perfect but if people could have held on to the damn ball he would have had a hell of a stat line in what probably would have been a win.
