First off, I watched again the Pats @ the Colts game last night. Great game. 2 great teams (pains me to say it), the energy from the Colts D was amazing, rushing the ball carrier very time, I hope Sutton watched the game. Anyway to my point. Tony Dungee is one of the greatest coaches the game has. Not only that, he excudes class and humility, always complimentary to other coaches, a true gentleman. So how come that asshole Belichick could only sneer at him as they shook hands after the game. "Shake hands", watch the tape it was a carbon copy of the Mangini fiasco. Here is what I want and what will gain some credability for Mangini. After the game in Foxboro irrespective of the score and it might be bloody I want Mang to take Belichick by the throat and smack his lights out maybe say something like..." Leon Hess says hello". Sorry for this rant guys, I f****** hate that prick belichiken, we better be ready to do harm in Foxboro in December.
The reason Belicheck snubbed Dungy is one of two possibilities: (1) There were cameras everywhere and Belicheck is very camera shy, especially when he wants to share an intimate moment with another coach (he made a similar complaint after the playoff win over the Jets last year) or (2) he blames Dungy for being the proponent of all those stringest pass interference rules that apparently were a result of one of the Colts losses to the Pats in 2002 or 2003. Either way, as much as I'd like to see Mangini stand up to Belicheck, I'd much rather see him grab D-Rob by the jersey in the middle of the game, get in his face, and scream "TACKLE SOMEONE!!!"
The real reason he was like that is because the Pats are accusing the Colts of using fake crowd noise.
Which, of course, was crap as the NFL proved yesterday, not to mention that your argument is even a bigger pile of crap as there was no difference on the field. Just in the broadcast. Bellishit would love for someone else to be caught cheating but for now he is it.
Dungee should have said something like this - "I hate the way they portray us in the media. If you see a black coach it says they are cheating if you see a white coach it says they are looking for a competitive edge. (...) those are my people down there. (...) "We already realize a lot of the people that could help are at war now fighting another way and they've given them permission to go down and shoot us." "Bill Belichick doesn't care about black people!"
Maybe Belichik is just a nasty SOB with a chip on his shoulder? He always seemed that way to me when he was DCing the Jets. The only difference was that Parcells was around being top bastard in those days. Parcells also has a bullying sense of humor, which is something that eludes Belichik entirely.
How many of us would hate Belichik, no matter how dysfunctional and irritating he is on a personal level, if he had blown off the Pats and stayed with the Jets and taken us to Super Bowl after Super bowl ?
exactly. He got lucky that maybe (probably?) the guy that will go down as the greatest QB EVER fell into his lap. He should be grateful for it, instead he continues to keep this pompous attitude towards others. Not to mention the fact after seeing every media outlet in the country continually butter his balls and call him the greatest coach EVER he somehow conjures the idea that the league/media is out to get him.
thats true, but I doubt they knew he was going to be great. They just thought they could use another backup QB. Its not like they knew he was going to be as good as he was- if so they would have picked him #1. There was definetely a lot of luck involved.
   At least someone gets it. Talent evaluation is part of having a good team. The best teams are the ones that get production out of the mid to late round picks.
They carried Tom Brady for a years as a 4th quarterback. Even from the beginning, he was being groomed as Bledsoe's replacement. BB was never a big fan of Bledsoe, probably because of the way he dismantled Bledsoe every time Bledsoe played the Jets.....BB knew his game was very flawed. In the book Patriot Reign, they had 2 quarterbacks targeted in that draft that they really wanted....Brady was one of them...if I remember correctly, Rattay was the other one.
I agree the Belicheck was never a big fan of Bledsoe, and keeping Brady around as a 4th QB was a good move, but also a pretty obvious move that most coaches would make. (I bet Brady was good in practice before he took over as QB) But to say they "Targeted" Brady is a little clouded. They may have "targeted" him as a mid-late round QB with some potential down the road, but you would have to be a soothsayer or some kind of divine entity to predict that some scrawny kid who split time at Michigan was going to be the second coming. To put it this way, If I'm not mistaken Chad Pennington was selected the same year as Brady 2000. Pennington had first round potential of course, as the Jets selected him with one of their first rounders. If you would have asked Bill Belicheck at the time if he would have rather had Chad Pennington or Tom Brady, excluding round selection or anything- just asking him who he'd rather have- he would have spit his coffee out and yelled Pennington. So basically what I'm saying is spare me all this recognizing good talent B.S. dude, you know that got pretty lucky. In 2003 the Jets selected Brooks Bollinger in the sixth round, decent back-up QB. If he would have turned out to be insanely good as Brady I would not argue that the Jets saw it coming.
You don't target somebody to draft in the 6th round. I have no doubt that Brady was somebody they were interested in, but they undoubtedly had 50 other guys ahead of him on the list and he's the one who fell to them on pick 198 (or whatever it was.)
I think Belichick was still mad at Dungy because Dungy compared him to Barry Bonds. I wish Dungy had kept his opinion to himself seeing that it only fired up the Patriots. I still can't believe we lost that game. I hate to say it Jet fans but your probably in for a long day when the Jets visit New England again.
