Buddy, out of the original posters 5 points listed, 2 of those points were about critiqueing Kellens play. Before shooting your mouth off, try reading the post you are posting about. 3 of the 5 points were the usual Kellen vs. Chad comparison and the reasons why Chad should have and has been replaced. My post fits in because it is about how the change in QB issue (again 3/5 of the listed points) is not our largest issue, and could very well (as we have already seen when Chad has terrible surrounding casts) actually work against our young QBs development. I guess that is to much of a stretch for you to consider when pondering the never before talked about topic of why Kellen Clemens is better than Chad Pennington....
I would agree with you that the team's lines need overhaul and I don't think anyone is disputing that. I think evaluating KC after 2 games is ridiculous and you cannot portend how good he will be by such a small sample. I will say the QB change needed to be made only to see if we needed to draft a QB in the upcoming draft.
york61.......right on brother. KC did fine, in fact I think he showd great promise. But behind that line, and with the defense erasing the young QBs strides at every turn this might not be the wonderfull warm and fuzzy story of a young gun QB turning a franchize around single handedly. In fact it has more of a chance of being the story of a promising young QB who showd he can take a beating over and over again until he either gets severly injured (knocking on all pieces of wood around me) or simply losses his nerve. I know we needed to make the QB change before the draft. And now 'I guess' is as good a time as any to make the switch but putting any QB behind center right now is not what I would call a safe bet by any stretch. Both the defense and offense are not working with any solidarity. And THAT my friends is not a good way to measure your QBs talents. Put him behind a decent line with a defense that can keep separation of points on the board and then we can see what this kid really has. Until then we will be in the same mire of crap we have seen all year. Aside from some nice hard throws and some really welcome pocket presance the game scoring wise on both sides of the ball was pretty much an exact replica of our past games this year. Jump on them early, get a lead going into the half with some crazy kickoff returns and a few TDs and watch the lead get erased in a hurry and finally disappear in the end. There really has been no change. The trench work needs to be #1 priority again in the off season. Along with maybe a new Defensive Coordinator. And I will bet anything that most of the yahoos on these boards will be CRYING for the TEs, the top WRs and the top RBs (glamour pics) come draft time. I will be routing for MOSTLY solid trench guys, and a FIERCE pass rusher.
I didn't bring it up - I was trying to get back on topic. CRS - why would you want to leave QB as the last piece we implement? I mean how about we judge Clemens in this less than ideal situation and then project how much better he can be if the circumstances were improved? As for taking a beating - he was sacked 3 times yesterday. He showed great escapability and the ability to slide in the pocket. The offense isn't so bad that his growth will be stunted so I'm not really sure what your point it. This is the right time for Clemens to start. Him starting may not mean anymore wins for the Jets this season. It might mean more down the line either because of the experience he gains(or worst case scenario the FO's ability to evaluate his play before next years draft). And so that we don't stray I'll answer you before you mention it yet again: yes our team needs to improve on the offensive and defensive line. Chad Pennington was only a contributing factor in our team losing week to week - not the sole factor.
good post, i like what i have seen from KC(at least the last 5 qtrs, the first 3 against Bal were bad). He is still learning and has many things to work on but i am very happy w/ his progress so far and I look forward to seeing improvement the rest of the way.
Having watched Eli in the flesh, he's not that impressive. Or at least he wasn't that day. But to be fair, it was raining, and abroad.
I think it's fair to say that for a high first round pick Eli sucks. He's an above average QB but just barely above average.
