We all know that Reed is somwhat undersized to play inside in a 4-3, and it is just out of the question for him to play the nose in a 3-4. But he is quick and he can stop the run. I'd like to see him as a DE. If nothing else he would be a good run stopper and I think he may suprise some with his quickness.

Rather have the new guy we brought in Von Bosch or whatever play NT and move Robertson to DE.

does anyone really think that robertson can play the 3-4 DE?? im hoping he can, but is he quick enough?? it didnt work for warren sapp and sapp was dominant as the 3-technique DT.. sapp got tons of pressures and sacks and robertson hasnt played to that level... so what makes anyone think that robertson can be an effective 3-4 DE.. more than just a run stuffer??

James Reed has the size and speed for washing Mangini's car.

I think he could be solid rotating in, but he doesn't have the strength to play it on every down IMO.

Kimo isn't a nose tackle either, FITM. He's only about 295 and has played 3-4 end the last five years of his career.

    James Reed signed a 1-year deal last season...So isn't he a UFA?

So he is strong enough to play inside but not outside. Um, ok.

yep James Reed is a UFA and will proably still be a FA in August.

He was an UFA last yr and lasted a long time so I dont see anything different this yr.

Nose Tackles usually get 1on1's until they start beating the center, so whoever is better at 1on1's should be NT...then they double team him and a LB can blitz free

he isn't strong enough to play inside--that is why Vilma took such a beating last year, and why vilma had at best an above average year. also why they had a fight on the sidelines. small, quick, a guy who avoids blockers. A DE in the 3-4 has to handle blockers. he is not suited for it just as Abe was not suited for it.

you don't have to be fast to play the 3-4 DE

you need 1 big NT and 2 big DE's, i think robertson would be good, but obviously they know what they're doing as far as personelle

He is a good rotation guy. The Jets need a 0 technique NT first and foremost. Sign Grady Jackson. Ellis at LE and Kimo @ RE. That is a start. Still also need more linebackers. I did like the Chatham signing

we do not need reed on this team. He is wack and barely a decent backup. I would rather have david ball backing up DE

Reed is garbage. He was piss poor last year, and will never be any better. Hell, even Herm finally had to bench him.

If nothing else, he threw a punch at Vilma. I don't care what the excuse is, you take a cut at one of the most talented and hard-working guys on the team, you can kiss your ass goodbye. If Mangini wasn't putting up with Abe and Mawae, you can be damn sure he won't put up with Reed.

Besides, moving DRob to end is a bad idea. He hasn't been a stellar DT, but there is no way he is going to be able to play end with that knee. It's bone on bone. Playing on the outside would probably end his career.

What does it cost to give him a chance to earn a spot outside. His size is best suited for that position. We was not good at the nose bc he is too small. But he is the perfect size to work on the outside. What is there to lose?
