i posted this briefly in another thread, but I'd like to hear y'alls thoughts...

is it plausible to trade down from #4 a few spots (say #7 or #8) to draft Vernon Davis? I realize that TE isn't a pressing need, but Davis has that unique ability to line up as a receiver as well as block. Therefore, that helps our OL and gives us another Offensive weapon.

Then, with #29, we draft the BPA, probably at OL. With the possibility of signing Runyan, a player like Mangold may last -- if not, go with the next best OL -- which would really improve our OL.

This scenario gives us more Offensive firepower and begins fixing the OL, all in two picks.

The only problem I see with this is, is it really worth carrying four TE's on the roster (unless one of ours, i.e. Baker, doesn't return)?

But, like I said, with these two picks, we have a lot of flexibility heading into R2, having already improved the OL.

    cheers

Please no more TE talk. That the last thing we need inthe first round. There are so many other pressing needs.

BTW look at our history with 1st round TE.

Johnny Mitchell, Kyle Brady,Anthony Becht. I think we should learn from our history and not repeat the same mistakes.

Depending on what we'd get for a trade down, I'd support drafting Vernon Davis in the top 10. IMO, he is not only the best TE in the draft, and maybe in the last 5+ years, but he is also the best receiver in the draft, WR or TE. He can and will line up as a WR, H-back, and TE, and create matchup problems all over the field. He has all the physical tools but is not just a workout warrior as he had a VERY productive career at Maryland.

If we can get an additional 2nd round pick for moving down 3-4 slots, I'd be happy with Vernon Davis. The 2nd round pick we'd get would also probably be top 40, allowing us to get a starting calibre OL or CB. Otherwise, I'd rather stay at 4 and take Mario Williams.

i agree here. getting an extra R2 pick, all the more justifies selecting Davis. with #29 and two R2 picks, you know the OL will be fixed.

    cheers

I'd prefer a trade scenario that involved three overaged and overvalued players and their families, thank you very much.
