Are you kidding me man? There are about 10 other positions that we need more then a frigg'n TE right now.
Do you even watch the games? Methinks not... Baker is one of the most consistent tight ends around in the catch department, and his blocking is also quite good. The problem right now is that he's not being used in the pass-catching role all to much, as he's being held back to support a very weak O-line. Plus, our OC just does not throw to the TE as much as some of us would like. It wouldn't matter if Gates were back there, with the crappy QB and pourous line, the throws to the TE still are not being made. Name 3 times when Baker was thrown the ball and you nearly put your shoe through the TV because he missed the catch...
I wouldn't want us to waste anything on a tight end - Chris Baker is fine; we need beef on both lines - that has to be the #1 priority this off-seaason. It pains me greatly to speak of the off-season when this season is only at the half way point.
Save this rant until the off season. I have a sneaking suspicion our T/E will be used starting this week.
so, who is going to be the TE that the TGG randoms are going to be screaming for in the 2008 Draft. I can see all the threads now (a la the Olsen threads from the previous draft).
I swear, that was rock bottom for me, everyone pushing for Olsen as BPE, regardless of what our more pressing needs were at that point...
I think the 9 exclamation points might be a bit excessive but I don't think it as crazy an idea as some of you make it out to be. TE is one of many positions that could stand to be upgraded. It might not be the biggest need right now but could be upgraded. We'll know by the end of the year just how big of a need it is, Baker throughout his career has been nothing more than average. Is the Qb to blame? We'll find out..
We have a solid tight end. We need two new guards and a right tackle. Could you imagine a line of all first round picks? I could run the ball for 3 yds/carry.
Yeah well, that's ONE guy out of 32 NFL teams...you don't come across a talent like Antonio Gates every so often, and he came out a no where -- an undersized college basketball player for Kent State. We're not going to find ANYONE of his talent level in free agency or the draft this year, unless Antonio Gates or Vernon Davis get released...and that's not going to happen. Jason Witten, Jeremy Shockey, and Dallas Clark are also great tight ends for their teams, but they aren't going anywhere new either.
Agreed, he's like the anti-Becht, and as much as we used Becht with Vinny, we didn't use Baker with Chad. I'm hoping this trend doesn't continue with Clemens.
Dear insolent gangbang 69 I had spent a few minutes writing a long education response however I have since deleted it for fear that if it was to long you might print it out, spray some raid on it, roll it up and smoke it. please never sttart a thread again.
LOL I don't think we need a Tightend, but what if a guy like Alge Crumpler was available next season. Who you take him????
