Why? Well he hasn't lived up to his worth in the 34. Pretty simple right? Here's the nail in the coffin: They released info on Coles' injury, but not Vilma's. This IR thing is nothing more than Mangini putting in the guy he wants, while not stirring shit up. He's gone. "Vilma too"
It's not like other teams are going to trade away draft picks in exchange for a player in which they don't know his condition. This is a silly thread.
some pretty good points there. he's gone. it's a damn shame too. he's gonna go somewhere else and destroy people. hope we get a good pick.
i think you are about 6 months late on this subject...we have been talking about this for a long time
David Harris was a monster (17 tackles) against the Bills. Not like Vilma being pushed around like a rag doll.
Of course they do. Any team who has interest in him will know exactly what his condition is. The fact that the surgery appears to be elective and not mandatory is what clouds the issue, imo. If he had an ACL and needed surgery i think the team would have said so. This injury is in more of a grey area, so they must have just decided not to publicize it now. It could be something non- dramatic like some cartiledge, or fluid build up/inflammation from a long standing condition, or something along those lines. it could be a slight tear, without being a full or severe tear. It is significant in terms of affecting his ability to play football, but since he is exploring his options, there is apparently a choice to not have surgery if he decides to go that way.
It just makes no sense that he won't even mention what knee it is. There's a lot more to this, than an injury. If Vilma could play in this scheme, he'd be playing. Of course I'm speculating, but something doesn't jive here.
They could not put a guy on IR who didnt have an injury. They'd get into a huge amount of trouble for it. That is exactly what mangina doesnt need after being the one to expose cameragate. You cant be a whistleblower and then flaunt the rules and think you're not going to get burned. Did you listen to the Vilma interview? I'm curious if you formed this opinion without hearing what he had to say yesterday.
I read parts of it. In fact it made me lean more towards it. If he's on IR, there's no reason to be overly secretive about it, and then go out and inform everyone their caption on O has a concussion.
You dont know the story if you only read parts of it- not that they are giving us the full story anyway. But you seem to be opining without researching for as much info as possible before you reach a conclusion. i agree that I think he will be traded, which is your basic premise. But I dont think Vilma would go on IR if he wasnt really injured. So what is your explanation for putting him on IR other than "There's a lot more to this, than an injury". You really think they need to put him on IR to start Harris? That makes no sense, especially since they have benched a bunch of guys this season, including Pennington.
maybe he's saying they need to IR Vilma to start Harris so Vilma doesn't lose trade value. if he's getting benched for playing poorly, his value decreases. but if he's getting benched for an injury (which he'll come back from), then teams will still believe he can play affectively and that he's not riding pine because he's played like crap.
I agree 100%. The Jets in good faith can not put a player on IR that is not hurt. If Vilma was healthy, I guarantee he would be calling the union office and the first words out of his mouth would be WTF. He would be screaming bloody murder. From what I understand, I want to make abundantly clear I am no insider, he hurt a bone in his knee and possibly the ACL/MCL as well. It was a wacky injury at the very least he is injured. Harris was going to get playing time regardless if Vilma got hurt or not. What he would not be, is the de facto leader of the D like he is now. I feel bad for Vilma because he is a classy player but in this case it may have worked out for the best in both the Jets favor and possibly for Vilma............... well eventually.
