16. Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh (6-5, 339) | Previous: Unranked Light on his feet for a huge bookend, Otah is still developing. He played only one year in high school and two at the junior college level. He also played basketball in junior college and is a tremendous athlete. His upside and potential are going to excite offensive line coaches in the NFL. This guy is 16th on Kiper's board and he has him ranked ahead of Sam Baker. If this guy is there at the Jets pick, I think he is definitely worth considering. He's got the size to be a force in run blocking and it seems like he's got potential in pass blocking. With a guy like this Kellen would be in good hands for the next 10+ years with D'brick, Mangold, and Otah as the stallworths for the O-line.
He is not a top 5 pick which is where we will be picking at this stage and it is doubtful he will slip to the second round given his possibilities as an OT. We are more likely to get a shot at Jake Long....who we won't take for obvious reasons. And the obvious reason is we have D'Brick who is well and truly panning out as a legit NFL LT. We have a hole at RT and the guard positions, but you don't go RT or guard in the first round, especially when you have as many holes on the roster as we do. Unless we get a shot at Run DMC I think it is fairly obvious we will be going defense first pick. The 'other' Long, Chris Long, is a definite shout out to go with our first pick. Still, good thread though....it is good to see these names out there for discussion.
I would be shocked if the Jets don't trade down this year. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if this guy ended up in the top 5, the sixth round, or undrafted. There's a lot that can still happen. This time a few years ago, Kyle Boller was a third round type. You never know. -X-
