Clemens and Favre I just watched the Clemens press conference, and he reminds me a lot of Brett Favre. Not only does look like Favre, but he sounds a lot like him when he talks to. Lets hope he ends up with a career like Favre's too. http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show/1778-clemens-will-step-under-center-do-my-best-
Hmmm, Brett Favre, would I take a Clemens who played like Brett Favre? Let me think about it for a nano-second and I'll get back to ya.
I think the point of the post was that Clemmens conducts himself like Farve publically, not that he plays like him. He just said he hopes Clemmens career is as good. In fact Hell So do I!
Everyone thought Pennington was just like Montana, and look how that worked out. Let's keep the comparisons on the shelf, shall we? (even the ones about how someone looks at a press conference, which to be honest I don't really understand anyway)
Some things are too holy to spell check and ANY comparison of a Jet's QB to Brett Farve is one of those...
LOL, I hate to say it but this is not even in the ballpark. It actually had a lot of unintentional comedy.............. a thread can never be considered bad when it contains a lot of that.
When Montana worked his magic, he had a great RB, some of the best receivers in the game (including the greatest of all time), and most importantly, a great OL. Is it any wonder that Pennington struggled this year? Chad has had some good seasons for the Jets... and what did those years include? A solid OL, a top-notch RB, and a solid receiving corps (with the receiving corps probably being the least important factor). This year, despite having the weapons, he has had ZERO time (for the most part). Put Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, or any QB you care to name in this scheme, and he likely has a hard time, too. Not as bad a Chad has it, obviously, because Marino and/or Peyton have much better arms and could get away with more mistakes because of it... but it's still not something I would put 100% on Pennington's shoulders. I think there's something to be said for what can be read from a press conference. If you ever listen to Brady, Montana, Elway, Namath, Simms, etc... if you ever listen to them speak, you can pick up on the charisma. They might not be the brightest guys in the world, but you can sense some degree of intelligence behind there... some quality that makes their teammates want to fight for them. Pennington has this quality, I believe. Drew Bledsoe, if you've ever heard him speak, most certainly does NOT have this quality. I guess you could call it a general charisma, for lack of a better word.
No ones is. But He could have made that throw that Favre did, to win that game last night. That was the first thought that went through my mind, when that play happened.
But he couldn't make it while fading backwards! Its unbelievable, Favre has the strongest arm I have ever seen. I think he ended up around the 5 after he threw the ball. Most QB's step into throws and Favre fades away. His arm strength has to be at the top all time with Elway.
I think Favre has a better long-distance arm than Elway. Elway's was ridiculously strong on short to intermediate routes. If he hit a guy in the numbers within 20 yards, it was a bullet. (I still remember the old "Elway Cross" thing.) On a long pass though, I don't think anyone compares to Favre. That TD hit his man downfield in stride last night. That was a TD solely because Favre willed it to be. And like you said, he did it leaning backwards! Favre is by far my favorite QB of all time. (But I'd love to be able to replace him with Clemens.)
Clemens reminds me a lot more of JEFF GARCIA, in both style and ability. If he is a young Jeff Garcia I would be more than happy with him as the starter. Ability to make things happen with his feet and arm and moxie as a leader. Exactly what we need. If we can continue to show improvement on defense and draft an entirely new offensive line next year Id start to feel a lor more comfortable about our future.
