Trading vilma would be a huge mistake.. Hes got the talent to be a playmaker an the kind of intensity we need in the locker room.. Stop throwing him under the bus so quickly....

He's not under the bus. He's in the garbage disposal. There's a difference.

Quickly is two years of disappearing? Look man he's a beast in the 4-3 but we're not running the 4-3 anymore....let him go somewhere where he'll be productive and we'll get something that helps us in return. It's a win-win.

Sorry don't agree. Four guys we HAVE to move this ofseason either by trade or release are
    Pennington
    Vilma
    Robertson
    Barrett

Vilma and Drob might bring some return. We'd probably have to pay someone to take Chad and/or Barrett off our hands.

I think its a big mistake too. Harris had 5 years in the 3-4 and I love what he brings to this defense. Vilma has had 2. Vilma needed to make more plays, but with Harris next to him, I really feel like Vilma could take over. He reason Harris played so well today is because we ran a lot of 4-3 and we actually were getting to the QB. Revis pressured Edwards 5 times in a row. A Harris/Vilma tandem would be a young dominate group for years to come. Add a big NT and a solid OLB rusher and our defense could be great with Revis playing so well.

I also think Vilma along with Barton and Rhodes actually brings a spark to this defense. Our D only gets hyped up when these three get it going. He needs to be here, he is the best player so he becomes the scapegoat. No one is even talkign about how lousy Bryan Thomas is playing

I agree too, Vilma needs a NT, if we had Casey Hampton or Jamal Williams Vilma would run free.

No he wouldn't. He'd just be a lot less exposed. Look at the good to great inside linebackers in 3-4's (James Farrior, Zach Thomas in his prime, Teddy Bruschi in his prime, Mike Vrabel, etc) and you see people with the exact opposite skill set of Vilma. They hit hard and fill holes. When they rush up the middle they occupy a guard, not a back, because a back can't block them.

Vilma is a very good sweeper MLB in the 4-3. Give him a great set of defensive tackles and a pass rushing OLB like Julian Peterson to complement him and he'd be a consistent all-pro cleaning up for them.

Defense played much better without him today. We'll see if it keeps up. Persoanally I would like to see him as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 get him out in space where his speed will be useful.

It's the specialty of unappreciative Jets fans, and their bad karma towards players always comes back to bite them in the arse. They never learn.

I hope he is traded to a 4-3 defense, and comes back to ream mangina a new vagina. In the division would be even better- then he could do it twice a year!

Yea but its really not vilma's fault.. Our defense line gotta step it up cuz they havent been playing good at all. Last year I no vilma had a good number of tackles, heck he made the pro bowl as a reserve i think..

If the Jets went back to the 4-3 I'd be in favor of Vilma sticking around, since that's not likely to happen he's got to go. Should have been traded before the start of this season, in fact.

Adalius Thomas had 1 tackle today. No one is complaining about his talent. The difference is, every player on that defense is good. I think 4 players on our D are good (Vilma, Harris, Rhodes, and Revis). I honestly think not one other defensive player on this team would start on 90% of the other teams in this league. That being said, with no one around him, Vilma is the targeted player for the offensive line. The QB picks him out and the guards are gunning for him because they know he can make plays. Vilma would be a star again with good players around him. Our D line was awesome when Vilma had those two great years. As fans, we blame the players that we expect the most from. Vilma hasnt lived up to the hype in this defense, but that is Manginas lack of respect for talent. He chooses character over talent and it is now showing. NO reason to sign Kenyon Coleman or BT to that big of a deal. Or be convinced that Hobson, Barrett, or Poteat are respectible starters in this league.

He is not BB and even when we was defensive coordinator of the Pats, their D was average. He is not a head coach in my opinion and only made the playoffs last year because people took us for granted. We were really good in 2004 before all those guys got hurt, so it was no surprise to me that we were good again in 2006. Mangini has taken away all creativity and passion from this team and it is translating on the field

It isn't his fault, but the fact remains, even if we had a great line, he's still not a good fit for this defense.

I think he's a really good player in the 4-3, and it would be better to build our defense around him than use this 3-4, but that's not going to happen, so we'll probably have to move him.
