Keep in mind this is pure speculation, but according to profootballtalk.com the Raiders are obsessed with Vince Young but worry that he will not be available at the #7 pick. If the Jets aren't interested in moving up for Leinart, theortetically it would make sense to move down to the #7 to draft Cutler, DeAngelo Williams, Mario Williams, AJ Hawk, etc. (whoever's on the board.) Then with the extra picks they could move up higher into the first round using the #29. Thoughts?
Considering they like Walter, and just signed Brooks, I don't know how willing they are to trade up for a QB. If they wanted to, I'd be willing to trade down and get their 2nd (or Porter, although that rumor seemed to be just that - a rumor.)
deangelo williams will go in the top 10 when hell freezes over....twice i still say he's not even a safe bet for a first round pick, i think he's going to be one of those people who fall
The Texans or Titans will probably pick Young, so all this talk might be moot. In fact, don't be surpirsed to see Oakland trade up to #2 if they really want Vince. Vince's pro day today turned heads. His stock is on the rise again.
I am sorry man but Oakland would have to be nuts to trade down to take Young..Leinart goes to Tenn..and then Young goes all the way to Oakland..
who knows?? the deal with brooks is only a 2 year deal.. maybe enough time to train vince young and its not a bad idea to have a mentor that is also a mobile QB.. if the raiders were sold on brooks then they would have offered a 4-5 year deal.. i see the 2 year deal being a stop gap and thus them preparing to pick up vince young.. will they trade up to us?? maybe not, considering GB and SF both have QBs.. young could fall to 7..
i think that both Williams and Bush are both OVERRATED!! I still think that the real RB out of USC was Lendale White....he carried them in the "short-yardage" situations, the "real" runs, and posed more of a threat as an NFL type back than BUSH!!!! BUSH IS A TREMENDOUS ATHLETE and has a huge upside.... but at this point is overrated, and still unproven as a RB. He could very easily develop into a LT type of guy (quick runs, amazing passes, quick-hitters), but even SD goes to other guys when "the going gets tough". Not to take anything away from LT (he has repeatedly proven himself", but Bush just reminds me of more than style runner. I think that maybe we (NYJ) should try to package the #29 with another pick, and move that pick (keep #4) up higher to try and take WHITE! He is our type of guy should be very durable and powerful (Lamont Jordan anyone????) I love C-Mart....but he is running down, and it would be a perfect time to groom someone to take over..... Use #4 to address DE/LB/OL/QB issues....and try to get White as a late round one option....and then maybe a WR in round 2. Thoughts/comments? and as your trading with the raiders.....fuck em!!! I live in CA...and they are never happy....all i hear around here is how TB cheated by allowing Gruden to know the signals and plays.....EXCUSES EXCUSES EXCUSES!!!!
A couple of issues I have here The main basis for the "Bush is not an every down back" argument is that he splits carries with Lendale. How has Lendale ever proven that he's a true every down back when he has split carries with Bush? Over his college career, his game high in carries was 25 and he topped the 20 carry mark only six times. I also find it interesting that Bush had as many 20+ carry games this year (3) as Lendale has. I'm not saying Lendale can't be that 25 touches a game guy, but he hasn't done anything to prove he's more capable of it than Bush. As to the part about using another back instead of Tomlinson when "the going gets tough", this is the case with every RB in the league. Due to the punishment that a RB takes they all have a specific situation where another guy is used. Barber has Brandon Jacobs in short yardage situations Shaun Alexander rarely is in on 3rd downs due to his lack of receiving skills Portis is often benched on 3rd downs for Rock Cartwright Rudi is benched for Chris Perry in passing situations On the surface 20 carries a game doesn't seem like a lot, but only 8 players had 320 or more carries on the season (20 per game over 16). Honestly these are more general statements about RB than feelings about White/Bush. I do worry a little about White's conditioning considering he admitedly to weighing over 250 pounds by the end of last season.
Informative post. After the Abraham fiasco I have confidence in the FO to do what they think is best. As long as we don't pick another Ken O'Brien (my 2nd favorite player growing up) over a Marino I'm happy.
I love how people forget just how far away the draft actually is. Nobody knows yet who is getting drafted where. Thanks to changing stock mixed with FO smokescreens it's just one long roller coaster ride for the fans and the prospects. Enjoy and be sure and use a pencil!
i might sound like a dumb pittsburgh fan (im definately not) but does gb have a qb? i mean like farve most likely is going to retire and theyre gonna need a replacement the year after anyway. Wouldnt the Pack be interested in Jay Cutler?
Are u serious twombles they drafted Aaron Rodgers who was a pontetial first pick in the draft last yr when he fell to them to be the heir of Farve, there not interested in a QB at all.
I'm not convinced that Houston is going to draft Bush. If they don't have him signed before the draft they may pick Young or trade out on draft day.
I really don't understand this Bush is overrated thing. He is the most dynamic runner in college since Sanders and Faulk, and he's faster than both those guys, and as a receiver he's far superior to Sanders and may even be better than Faulk especially downfield. Yes he's not big but this kid is tough, if you watched him this year you've seen him knock plenty of defenders over. And as for White, c'mon, this guy is simply not a first round back. don't get me wrong he's a decent prospect but he's a one trick pony, usc sent him up the gut over and over behind their truly dominant interior line, and of course the interior running game benefited greatly from the threat of Bush and the dominant passing game. If you watch the Rose Bowl, the game many are basing their opinions of White on, he went 5-8 yards up the gut untouched almost every time he got the ball as Texas interior line got dominated. Now sure Bush benefited from the factors I've mentioned too but he also averaged 2+ yards a carry more, is a far more complete running back (he will be possibly the best receiving rb in the nfl) and he's a dominant kick returner. This is all not to mention that Bush is rock solid off the field, a great kid, while White is shaky and has shown propensity to lose control of his weight.
