isn't it time for a conversation about harris vs vilma.and also about the potential of harris.i know it's quite easy to balme the cs for doing something crazy like benching vilma.but lets take a look at this objectively.they are benching an underperforimg player.(vilma has been bad this yr)in favor of a player they moved up in the draft to aquire.what if mangini has done again what he has done in the past.which is getting great talent from the draft.i guess my point is that isn't it possible that harris has been a BEAST in practice and vilma is getting benched because of it?weren't there some articles written about harris being a vilma clone with similar skills, only much bigger..inputs?
Why not bench Barton for Harris? Vilma and Harris are contrasting body types, so i'd think they compliment each other much better than Harris and Barton
Only problem is Harris is smaller than Barton, so people who already say our defense is too small will cry even more.......
With a craphole nose tackle we are better off with 240+ linebackers rathern the the safety sized vilma. Nothing against Vilma he just has no shot of ever shedding a block like that.
I'm fairly sure that most of the snaps Harris has taken this season were in Barton's stead. But without an effective DL, the back eight will always run into problems. And it's hard to find good 3-4 players. I expect harris to play better than Vilma, who has had a disappointing season. it's obvious to me he was not buying into this even before his "injury", and it definitely showed in his play. They made a mistake by not getting value for him last off-season. Just another one of the FO many mistakes. Barton needs to step as does BT, who has been invisible this season since signing his contract.
If we don't end up trading Vilma, i would absolutely love to see him tried at Strong safety. He would be incredible in the box. His speed would definitely be lacking, but look at Roy Williams. I think he might actually have the cover skills to play it on some plays.
