http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/news/story?id=2380236 Had his pro day today at Texas, with mixed results. I know the pro day was already posted, but nothing about the Jets working him out. Read this article, and you'll notice that the only comments made are by the Texans. They are trying to sell the rest of the league on this kid, mark my words. I just pray we stay away.
We're working out all three of the top QB's and probably some of the other top prospects. No real news though.
Bah. I don't care what any of you say. I liek Young, and I'd be thrilled to see him in Jets green as a QB.
That is a very biased report. Mortensen has always been anti-Young. The truth is Vince Young wowed the scouts with his throwing today. I think there is a good chance he won't even be around by the time the Jets pick. Either the Texans ot the Titans will nab him. It is even possible somebody else will trade with N.O. to get him. Here is a rundown from another board of Sean Salisbury's comments from today, which another poster said pretty much squares verbatum with what he said on ESPN. -You would have thought it was Rose Bowl media day with all of the media present. I've never seen that many people at a workout. Huff was there of course, but most everyone was there to see Young. -I've never seen a college football QB throw with that kind of zip. It was bordering on unbelieveable. He threw everything and had great touch. -The ball hit the ground 5 times out of 54 passes. Two overthrows and three drops. -I gave him an A- just because I would like to see him run a bit faster. -You will have scouts down his mechanics tomorrow. Don't change him. He is a playmaker. -When his arm comes to maturity, it will be unbelievable. -His footwork was really good, but then again there was no pass rush. -He will likely go in the top 5. -When he scrambles to his left, he forces his body into the correct throwing position. -Watching him his incompletions will be over-thrown. -I'm not trying to make to big a deal out of it, but you have to call what is impressive, impressive. -The ball just jumps off of his hand. I didn't expect him to be that accurate. He really impressed me. -Texans Coach Gary Kubiak had one word after the workout "Excellent". He said to me "I wish we could have played with that kind of ability" -Saban, McCarthy ad Kubiak were there. There were some Cowboy scouts there. -If he doesn't get picked in the top 5, some teams are stupid. If you saw this workout today, and you like Leinart more, you better wait to see Leinart again on his pro day. I just want to add my own comment after seeing Vince in person for three years. He is the most impressive football specimen I have ever seen in my life. You cannot compare him to Michael Vick, or any other "running" quarterback. There has never been anyone like Vince Young. If he is there at #4, you would have to be a fool to pass him up. The only people who are against drafting him or the ones who have not even bothered to see his games. Whereas Bush can impact games and provide highlights for the fans, Vince simply takes games over and wills his team to victory. The Rose Bowl proved which is more important. Think about all the people who dissed Vince before the Rose Bowl and were eating crow afterwards. The people who are dissing Vince before the draft will also be eating crow in the years to come.
the jets are getting the 1st pick cus texans want young but cant pick him #1 so we give them are 2 first rounders to move up 3 spots and get curtis martin's understudy. (This is my dream situation, Not gonna happen)
Let Tennessee take him so Leinart will fall to us at 4. Houston - Bush N.O-Williams Ten-Young NYJ-Leinart
I might camp outside the Jets bubble to get a glimpse of vince coming in for his workout.( look at my location on my profile)
yes yes yes, while nothing new in terms of news, this just helps get the raiders to possibly pony up a bunch of stuff to swap up to #4 from #7 in order to get young
If anybody can find a good reason not to draft Vince Young I'd really like to hear it. So what if he scored poorly on his Wonderlic? He's never been in trouble at Texas and clearly has an amazing on field IQ. As a scrambler, he is a freak of nature. But don't confuse him with Michael Vick, he is twice as good a passer as Vick is. Just look at some of his memorable performances (the Rose Bowl, the game at Ohio State.) Young's for real.
It was always common wisdom that Young would go to the Titans. I think too many people are assuming that now since Leinart won't be going to the Saints, the Titans will automatically take him because of the Chow connection. As Lee Corso would say, not so fast. There things often come down to front office personal preferences, and some report that the Titans GM is high on Young. Also, keep in mind that if anyone was likely to watch the Rose Bowl closely, it was Chow. Seeing as how he was once a part of the USC dynasty, you have to think he was impressed with the guy who single-handidly took down his old club. I know that Pete Carroll was awed by VY's performance. How could he not be? My point is Chow prefering Leinart over Young is not necessarily a foregone conclusion. Of course all this would be bad news because I would rather see gim go to the Jets.
young is for real. the reasons not to draft him are the same for leinart or cutler. too bad the jets dont need a qb. Does everyone 4get we traded for ramsey?
Bingo. If you doubt Vince's passing ability, take a survey of these clips, particularly from the Colorado and Oklahoma games. (he was 25 of 29 vs. Colorado) He has a quick release and smooth delivery. No comparison to Michael Vick. http://www.jcdenton41.com/VinceYoung-2005.html
I think the members here have given more than enough reasons that Vince Young could very well be a bust i.e weird throwing motion, questionable intelligence, unfamiliarity with a pro-style offense, etc. However, I think there are question marks with every prospect, and Young has so much potential that I sure would not be disappointed if we do indeed end up with him.
he has a crappy delivery that negates his great height advantage, and doesn't have great reading ability, its not hard to hit wide open guys (which is what he did in college), the NFL is much harder and things are based on timing, not waiting all the time for the guy to get open, he's a boom or bust, it'll be highly unlikely he's just average, he's either going to be great, or be nothing...he has a lot of work to do, but he does seem like he'll be dedicated enough if he gets with the right coaching around him
