I was in the Navy back in 95 and 96, well before the glory days of the internet and direct tv, so I did not get the pleasure of watching the Jets under Kotite, so I was wondering, for those of you who remember those dismal teams, how does this years team stack up against them in terms of preparation, execution and sheer ineptitude.

Very comparable to the '96 team I think. That team had some talent and I think the results of the following year would back that up. Problem is, they always, always found a way to beat themselves. I believe that this year's team is probably a bit better talent-wise than the '96 team. The '95 Jets were truly awful IMO. It was Boomer's last season as I remember and Bubby Brister was the backup QB. '95 was Chrebet's first season and he was head and shoulders our best WR. The other starting WR was Charles Wilson (who???!!!) I think.

I was at Rick Kotexs first game as coach in Miami -- we lost a nail biter 52-14
and from there it was downhill -- some bad games during that period -- at least this team seems to be in games each week -- these 4th qtr melt downs are killing me -- I do not think we are nearly as bad as thoses teams in 95/96

I forgot the dollar amount, but at that time it was an NFL high as far as off season transactions -- only to go 1 -15.

I feel the 2007 Jets are much better talent wise than the 1996 team, although it might be close.

I remember the games against the Eagles and Dolphins when the team was 1-13 and 1-14, and they didn't play too bad. I was at the Phins game, but the Eagles game was like 21-20 and the Phins game 31-28. I had much higher expectations for the 2007 team though, which makes it more depressing.

Exactly right -- in 95/96 we knew what we were getting but this team with no injuries -- just fucking sad

In 96 we invented ways to lose each week. We'd be in it, playing well, and then "it" would happen. Yesterday's game WAS kinda 96-ish

That Eagles loss from '96 still haunts me. I think that the Jets were up 20-0 and then lost the lead on an INT returned for a TD. Wasn't Frank Reich the QB? I remember him being a real Jekyll and Hyde type QB.

In 2007 the way the Jets lose is by building up a small lead at half time and then watching both sides of the ball play so poorly in the second half that the lead goes away until like clockwork Chad is given yet another opportunity to throw a game deciding pick 6.

It's like it's scripted or something.

Frank Reich did not play. Glenn Foley was the QB.
The Jets were leading 20-7 at the start of the 4th quarter.
Ty Detmer threw TD passes to Chris T. Jones and Irving Fryar.

are you kidding me? There is no comparison between this team and the 95/96 years. This year the Jets suck majorly no doubt, but those teams had some of the worst talent ever. Especially the '95 team, maybe the worst offense to ever take the field.

We're 1-6 and bad, but we've had some bad luck as well. With some tweaking (QB position eh?) and hopefully a little reversal of fortune we could win a few decent games down the stretch.

    Those teams stood no chance.

I was in college during 95-96 so I was spared most of those games, didn't get many Jets games in PA so this feels worse.

Just as bad if not worse – in 96 we would find new ways to phuck up games each and every week; this year we are pretty consistent in how we phuck them up.

We’re the Detroit Lions of the past few years now…in just about every game with the exception of a few total blow outs yet are still able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory just when you think everything is safe.

We are not even close to what happened with Kotite. Not even remotely close.

Especially, during Kotite's second year, the team was completely unprepared for the start of the season and totally clueless for almost all of the games. The whole team mailed it in arouind the 6th or 7th game and completely gave up. It was as abyssmal as it gets.

I have to disagree here. I know we are bad this year, but not even close to what we were under Kotite.

Even though we are clearly in a funk, I still think the team is trying and I still think Mangini is working hard at trying to get it right. Kotite remained totally clueless, especially during the 1-15 season. We played with no emotion and had poor execution in every aspect of the game. While our 1-6 record does not bode well, I still do not think we have approached the 1-15 Kotite era..................I hope we never see those days again. It was very tough being a Jets fan during those 2 years.

it was 20-7(10-0 then Philly scored to make it 10-7 then we scored 10 more to mak it 20-7) and the QB was Glen Foley.
