The Jets were so unbelievably complacent in the 2007 offseason being frugal in Free Agency and squandering draft depth to move up in the 1st and 2nd round. The team has a good amount of cap space. The gap between the Jets and the Patriots is wider than it's ever been. Those 2 factors alone should guarantee that the Jets will be big spenders in the Free Agent market next year. Combine that with some high draft picks and who knows? Maybe this season is the darkness before the dawn?
Agreed Man , I came up with a solution to get the team that fits the 3-4 and Mangini's system , DeWayne a no go in the 3-4? Trade em somewhere hopefully for a 2nd Rounder , Trade Shaun Ellis for a 2nd Rounder Draft a Big pass Rushing Defensive End (Maybe Calius Cambell of Miami ?) Draft a big true 3-4 Nosetackle (Maybe Red Bryant NT of Texas A&M ?) Get another cornerback and get rid of Barrett (Sign a Corner VIA Free-Agency , Charles Tillma or Dre Bly Perhaps?) Let Barton go and move David Harris into his slot. Need another Safety to go along with Kerry (Sign Eugene Wilson maybe ?) on the Offensive side Chad will most likely be our backup unless we trade em but idk about that , Give clemens some more playmakers but first we need atleast 2 O-Linemen (Signing Max Starks or Alan Faneca and Drafting another?) With Coles and Cotchery where very good but we need a burner at the 3rd Wide Reciever slot and possibly another Tight End though its not as important , Maybe a New Punter if Graham keeps punting the ball 15 yards. Those needs need to all be filled or you can say goodbye to next season aswell and Mangini will be gone.
Not with our owner. Look at his coaching hires - laughably cheap - Groh, Herm, Mangini. Look at out coordinator - Sutton and Schott - laughably underqualified. I have come to a realization that until he sells the team to a committed owner, we're doomed.
Yea even though we need alot of players i have the feeling Johnsons gonna be cheap like usaul and do nothing about it.
Ask yourself when Woody has done something sensible, yet costly, like sign a quality guard? What do we do, we re-up Brandon Moore and start a 7th rd scrap heap at LG and RT. So much for his affection of the "Patriot Way."
You'd have to put that on Tannenbaum not Woody wouldn't you? I have yet to hear of Woody curtailing any Free Agent spending. All teams have to work within the cap so I don't think many owners have much influence here. I do have to question why our coach and GM did not put their cap room to use to plug holes in the O-Line and D-Line. The FA's they signed came fairly cheap but are barely serviceable (Kenyon Coleman, etc.). Meanwhile our main division rival steals Randy Moss with a 4th round pick and signs the biggest name Defensive player available in Adalius Thomas.
This team needs to go for the big fish this offseason. Albert Haynesworth would be perfect for the NT position. Terrell Suggs needs to be brought in so the defense can have its speed rusher. In the draft if this team is in position Kenny Phillips has to be the guy. Apparently Phillips has the potential to be a game changing safety like Sean Taylor and Ed Reed. Pairing him with Kerry Rhodes who has been the only one this year making any type of game changing plays will give this team the best safety combination potentially in the league. The Offensive line can be addressed in the next two rounds. A solid guard and a solid tackle. If these things can occur this team can take huge strides forward
I can't imagine us taking a Safety with a top 5-10 pick. That's usually not a high value position that teams reach for that early on in the draft. Maybe if we trade down? In any case, I've got to believe that the Jets would set their sights on an elite D-Line prospect. Hopefully Nose Tackle.
The reason I mentioned how underqualified the coaches and coordinators are is b/c it's indicative of Woody having to take a crow-bar to his wallet to spend on this team. He won't splash for a big signing bonus. Mark my words, Haynesworth, Suggs, or any of the other top 5 free agents won't even get a "feeler" call from the Jets. It will be Kimo, kenyon coleman, and david bowens all over again. But hey, we extended brandon moore and bryan thomas!!!
You think Mangini takes a chance and signs Albert "Face Stomping" Haynesworth? There is no way, Its more important to mangini to build a team of saints then a team that wins...
AHAHAHAHA The way this season is going man i have no choice but to play to keep my mind out of reality lol.
At the very least, we'll need a NT, another OG, another good BD, and possibly a starting QB. Hopefully that'll work out.
Well then we'd better hope that Haynesworth is declared a saint by the vatican, or Mangini loosens up because this team needs a space eater and Haynesworth can do that. I don't know if there is a really good NT prospect in the draft. Maybe Okam?
Just don't make the same mistake the bills did in 02...getting mike Williams...sets your franchise back years if you mess up on a top 5 pick
If we used our first round pick on a safety I think I would go berserk. What do we do after that, draft a tight end and a fullback? Theres no point to drafting any linebacker or defensive back when you have no defensive line. Even if we got haynesworth and suggs, drafting a safety would be idiotic. There are much bigger needs.
