Let's put the moral arguments aside for the moment. Practically speaking, it is better to have players that are of good character. Why, you might ask? Because if players are getting arrested, that distracts the attention the team gets to that player, infects the locker room, and affects the mentality of that player. Then, of course, is the possibility that the league will suspend that player or that the player will find himself in jail. Football is a business. A player with good character is a safer investment.
how many times has moss been in jail? what is it that really makes him a cancer in the locker room? why did our staff not offer a 3rd rounder , and win the sweepstakes? because mangini doesnt know his ass from a player worth the risk.... new england does!!!!! call me negative all you want i'm only looking at it the way i see it.
not T.O now but the T.O then you say....so youre basically saying that in the right situation a so called "cancer" can change his ways right? We will never have a chance at that the way we pick our players....and lets not forget my original point.....a tremendous amount of players in the NFL are these "bad guys" that we're talking about. Do you think the Jets lockerroom is filled with choir boys? Screw "character" guys......just get me football players.
Moss gave the Pats a deal that was so discounted and it was only offered to them. I can't imagine any team not taking a shot at Moss for the deal. The fact is he wanted to play on NE and gave them a huge discount to his market along with the ability to cut him at virtually no cost. We didn't exactly have that opportunity. As most people understand the Jets are not a player or two away from a SB. To tie up money on 1 or 2 guys who would make us marginally better this year but not be part of a long term solution makes no sense. We are clearing cap room and drafting good players. We also had the bad luck of having our first round franchise QB who should be in his prime right now finished as an NFL QB by two shoulder injuries. That takes time to recover from. The biggest issue this staff has is the false expectations for what is a mediocre squad with a terrible QB was expected to do this year after outcoaching a schedule of NFL dogs on a consitent basis last year. This team needs to be rebuilt and to judge the staff now with the talent on this team is a reach.
That's a real discombobulated post ya got going on over there. First F@#$ the Patriots F@#$ Randy (Skinny) Moss. You break him that's what you do. Stall-worth He gets a smack too. The simple act of "Going out there and getting the players we need to win inst that easy. I personally believe that we have tons of talent on this team. First thing you do is change the defensive coordinator. The next thing you do is Change you know who!!!! The draft get that 350 road block to make this forced 3-4 work right. The last thing I would do is use the Tight End (One of the best in the league). Thought I forgot about the running back (No worry) You take care f the four things I mentioned and there wouldn't be a running game concern! Remember Your a Jets fan. You are used to this. One day we will have our time.
You're just assuming that the Jets passed on Moss because of his past. Who ever said that? Did Mangini say he wasn't interested in Moss becuase of his past? I think it's much more likely that there never was a market for Moss - that he demanded to go to the Pats and only the Pats no matter what it took. That's my theory. Of course, it's just a theory. Cuz no one knows.
Ill buys that theory. Who wants to go to a good team rather then a team that’s primed to go all the way. That’s every players wish as well as every fan! To win it all!
I think the main problem with the Mangini Character Guy is the degree of what he considers detrimental to the team. Coles got in trouble in college for having his friend that worked in a store scan the wrong prices on clothes or something like that. Since he entered the league he has been a model citizen. Due diligence has to be done regarding the Character issue thing. There has to be a median ground between somebody doing something dumb as a child and someone that is a hardened criminal. If we are passing on guys who got into a fight in high school or got some free stuff from friend at Walmart or got in a club for free because their friend was a bouncer it is not the same as somebody who is a member of a gang or has a history of being around shootouts etc. I do not want good players to be passed up on because of something dumb they did as a juvenile. If you have been in the league for a few years and you keep getting in trouble in clubs etc then that should not be allowed on the team.
those are the ones that got caught....please people, dont tell me that youre not perfectly aware of the fact that most of these guys would be in jail if not for football...please stop the pollyanna nonsense, please Once you take the white sheet off your head can you please burn your hard drive and never post again..jeez..I believe thats a banable offense!
You are absolutely right most of them would be in Jail. With that said we need to find the ones that can stay our of Jail for 50 million dollar contracts.
1st of all please tell me a player that spent time in jail that affected his playing time on the football field? The only one you can say is Vick. That Panther WR (forgot his name) wasn't that good of a player anyway
Jamal Lewis Then there are the guys that might wind up in jail and, either way, doesn't matter cuz the NFL suspended them: Chris Henry, Pacman Jones, etc. Criminal players are not good for the bottom line.
the way i see it is that you build a good lockerroom and then you can absolutely bring in a guy or 2 that are not those team guys and many times they will conform due to the rest of the team being a certain way, that is how i see it with moss. he has grown up a little bit, he has been sat down by his coach and told what is and isnt acceptable and he is in a situation where he is surrounded by good guys with good football attitudes. does it work everytime? no it doesnt but having that good high character locker room is the thing you need to have happen before you bring in a guy who may give the room issues. the patsies didnt have too many of those guys in the beginning, now they are mixing them in and it seems to be working. the last thing you want is an out of control team, see cinci (they arent doing to well either this year)
