Of course, this argument is as old as the hills. We're all Jets fans and we all want to know as much as possible. A good coach is going to give you as little as possible, unless he's Dick Vermeil at the mike without his Prozac prescription and handkerchief, doing his best to imitate the Ellen DeGenerate Show. So I think Jetcane is as frustrated as all of us are. We're all looking for answers and solutions most of the time and Mangini is the anti-Christ when it comes to that. So, like I say, maybe it's just not even worth mentioning when the next press conference vomes along or even bothering to report what is said. It'll only frustrate the shit out of all of us.
That may be your opinion, but a large majority of this forum was singing Mangini's praises last season when he was tight lipped during Press Conferences. Feel free to scroll back a year if you dont beleive me. I as much as the next person would enjoy a good PC when the Head Coach has alot to say, given its my job to dig up info on the Jets. However Mangini is not, and never has been that guy ( again, the Anti-Herm) so we need to accept it. Although I dont think that was the problem last season when we were winning.
I agree with what you are saying, and do recall the "singing the praises" part as well. I personally was not in accord with that, so yeah, it is my opinion that he never gave entertaining PCs, even during the 10-6 season. But like his coaching, his PCs have been a little worse this year, too .I never called him "mangenius" either. i dont buy into a lot of the mainstream hype stuff; I am usually on the middle ground with these guys. Being a Jet fan since 65, I've seen a lot of HCs and players come and go, and so I dont get too attached or overwhelmed by the any of them. (Except I do have a soft spot for Canes ;-) So yes, i agree with your assessment. I'd take either some good info or some wry wit from him, it doesnt have to be both. Even one out of two would make things a little more enjoyable right now.
Hey fellas... quick! There's another press conference on right now on ESPN. Mangini is at the mike now: Question: Michael Vick has expressed interest in coming to the Jets after his jail time. Are you considering him? Mangini: All options are on the table and we'd like to consult our resident veterinarian. Question: Chad Pennington... if he throws a couple of INTs in this week's game, is he gone? Mangini: Gone is an indefinite term. We prefer consistency, as in "Going... going...." That's the kind of consistency we're looking for. If I said, "Going, going... gone," that wouldn't be consistent. Question: In last week's game you were on the 4-yard line with 3 downs left. What happened? Mangini: That's the kind of consistency we're looking for. We like to put ourselves in the best position to win. Obviously, with more downs in front of you, you've got more opportunities to win. Question: But this sounds like jibberish! When do we get some answers? Mangini: Your questions aren't consistent enough, that's why there's no follow-through. Consistency is the key... you should try it sometime. Question: Yeah, well, you're at 1-5 now. What's the story here? Mangini: The story is, we're taking the same approach... consistency. If you're consistently losing, you want to be more consistent, not less consistent. Consistency is the key. Question: Yeah, well, I can see I'm not getting anywhere with this so I might as well change the subject. How's Artie Bucco's food over at Vesuvio's? Mangini: We don't talk about those things, but obviously, we're looking for consistency.
