Clearly NE and IND are undefeated because of their coaches, it has nothing to do with personal. Take a look around the league, we have a young team and holes all over it and we have one of the worst starting QB's in the league running our team. Anyone who looked out the window yesterday and saw the wind blowing knew we were in trouble with Chad. We are rebuilding and no amount of sideline brains can make up for a bad QB and big holes all over the roster. BB was 5 & 13 with Bledsoe with NE before Brady came in and they went 75 and 24 since. I want to see Clemens start as well but I believe they want to bring him along slowly and until the team has brought him along and filled some of the other glaring holes, I don't expect brains to beat talent on a regular basis.
No.... I mean, there are a few designed screens in there... But you can watch Chad visibly go through his progression and check down time and time again... The only time he doesn't, he stares down his #1 target off the bat and lofts it into coverage.... That being said, I chose Mangini because he has the power to end this, and he's refusing.. Be it out of loyalty, stubbornness, or stupidity, I don't know...
Its Chad unfortunately. We had been put in a place where we could have won the last three games and uncharacteristic mistakes by Chad cost us all three games. The Eagles game shouldn't have been close but the defense really stepped it up and force FG tries.
Actually, I voted Pennington, and I DID think about it. What is the coaches job? Put the team, and the Players in a position to win.... When has he not done that? Pennington threw the Picks in Buffalo, and against the Giants. Nugents missed FG's in all three of the last weeks, have had impacts on the games. McCraphands dropped two should be TD's and dont forget the one in the first qtr, (He may have been held when he went around McCallister, but he was wide open...) in Baltimore. We all know that there are still talent voids being addressed, however, the players, have been in the position to make the plays and succeed, every week. You cant blame Mangini for that. Dyson didnt tackle Plaxiglass, Dyson and Smith both missed Curtis yesterday, not Mangini. The only fault you can pin on him for the last three weeks, is poor tackling. And a couple fo questionable play calls. Yesterday the call on 4th down, should have been the 2nd down call, followed by a sneak or a run, and then something that gives you more of an option than a chicken wing and a prayer. Which they addressed in practice this week, but it was two weeks past due.
But you blame Mangini for not making the necessary changes when things are not working. Chad doesn't play defense, and he wasn't running a post route with 1 minute left in the Ravens game. Chad doesn't make the decision to give Thomas Jones the ball 12 times against the league's worst run defence, or put a first round LB that made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in a system that makes him look ordinary. Sayign Chad is more to blame than Eric implies that you don't think these other factors are contributing to our record, and that's just plain ignorant.
How can you not blame Mangini????? If it is Pennington's fault...isn't that because Mangini has kept him as the starter? Isn't it Mangini's job to evaluate talent and put the best team on the field, in addition to game prep? IMO, a vote for Pennington is a vote for Mangini...isn't it?
Pennington's lack of arm strength has cost us 2 games minimum this season - Philly and Buffalo - and maybe even the Giant game. We could be 3-3 or even 4-2. But, it's Mangini who decides who plays - so ultimately (as with Herm) the buck stops at the Coach - not the player.
It's also the HC job to do what is in the best long term interest of the club which may be in conflict with putting the best team on the field at times. That appears to be the case right now.
Chad is the biggest factor, because he controls the ball, but the coach DOES NOT HAVE THE HORSES. It's plain ignorant to blame Mangini that McCraphands missed Three sure TD's in Baltimore. Or 3 FG's in 3 weeks. The 3/4 4/3 thing is a misconception. the problem with the Defense is that they have no margin for error, and they have already put in place half of their players...Vilma can be marginalized, as long as Coleman, Harris,Revis, Rhodes, produce, and they have. Vilma is a very good football player, but He's not Ray Lewis or Dick Butkus. The D only gave up 16 points yesterday. They only gave up 17 in Buffalo They gave up 28 against the Giants, but the Giants got 2 picks, not counting the one for a score . And in each of the last three weeks you had a missed FG. The coach has done a good job with the players he has. However, once you get to wanting a change at QB, how exactly does that work out? You know there are OLine problems (Once philly stopped going in one direction at the snap, the running game slowed down considerably), so do you risk Clemens right away, Lose Chad, and take the chance that the line wont protect Clemens well enough ? Or, Do you play Chad, who is less likely to hold on to the ball, and get hurt, let the line gel, and wait out one of two things.... It becomes apparent to Chad that his time as a starter is over, and you keep him on the team after Clemens is the starter (you will need a backup, and right now, Chad is your best option, if Clemens comes in and Jarvis Green rolls up on him.....) or The line collapses, Chad HAS to come out, and Clemens has to go back in for more than on game...
Hobbes we may go in the exact opposite direction most of the time but eventually we end up in the same place.
I blame Chad....past couple of weeks he's been horrible and throwing picks left and right....also blame the play caller for yesterday's lost...there's no way you don't run that ball on 4th & 1...especially the way we were running the ball all game....makes me sick to my stomach.....
He may not be calling them, but he knows (or should know) that chad will throw to the check down EVERY TIME.
I understand your point of view, so there was no need for a smartass answer. Let me ask you something: I totally agree with you that Mangini has to do the right thing and pull Pennington. But if Pennington is such a "Leader", how about him showing some guts, admitting he has nothing left, and Voluntarily sitting down because it is best for the team?
Of course you have to vote Mangini. We have problems all over the field. If you had asked me after Buffalo/Giants, I would have said Chad by a narrow margin. I jumped to the bench Chad side after last week, though, so anything he does from here on out is on Mangini.
Ideally, I think it would be the smart play by Chad, but I don't know of any starting QB who would bench himself because it's best for the team. Anyone know of a precedent?
